Quote: Maybe someday add "Edit Profile" to pop up the Profiler dialogue? Well, since TurboCLT takes its data from the online and not from your collection, "Edit Profile" isn't really an option.
Quote: By the way, the front and back cover tabs don't work on my version. They should work if you check "Show images" from the Options menu first. This is unchecked by default since loading images takes a bit of time.
This is mentioned in the Help file in the topics "Display profile" and "Buttons and menu items". | Posted: Topic Replies: 69, Topic Views: 13036 |

Normally clicking the Refresh Updated Profiles button (w/o Ctrl) should download just an incremental update of the list (just the updated parts), but currently this is not working, so you have to download the full list by holding down Ctrl. And yes, it does take a bit of time, especially if you have a slow connection.
Do you still get an access violation even after a database repair? | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 6723 |

Yes, unfortunately it seems that any update in birth years results in that error. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. | Posted: Topic Replies: 8, Topic Views: 6705 |

I don't think there is a way to see the Sort Title on the main layout or in a report that uses the internal report generator. You can, however, create reports with ProfilerQuery that show the sort title.
Even with ProfilerQuery it's going to be a lot of work, given the size of your collection. I could probably create a custom tool that lists profiles with non-standard sort titles, if you are interested. | Posted: Topic Replies: 1, Topic Views: 1881 |

Quote: if it is not mentioned somewhere, e.g. in a text or legal info on the cover that it is indeed the MGM vintage classic series, I would consider "Vintage Classics" the correct edition. No mention of "MGM Vintage Classics" anywhere. | Posted: Topic Replies: 8, Topic Views: 5235 |

There is a contribution up that changes "Vintage Classics" to "MGM Vintage Classics" for this title:
I have two concerns about this; one general and one specific.
First of all, the contribution notes say "to match approved profiles for other titles in this series." I always get concerned when someone says "to match" something. As we all know, something being approved doesn't necessarily mean that it's correct (sadly). So changing something to match something else may possibly mean that we are actually just propagating a previous error. I believe that each contribution must stand on its own.
Secondly, nowhere on the cover does it actually say "MGM Vintage Classics". There is a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer logo but it doesn't actually say "MGM" and it's clearly separated from "Vintage Classics".
So, what do you guys think? Is this an acceptable contribution? | Posted: Topic Replies: 8, Topic Views: 5235 |

Quote: My suggestion would be to start with titles that have the word "Disc" in them, and see where it goes. We could try that, but I have to warn you that I have several movie boxsets where the individual children have titles that contain "Disc", and lots of TV titles that does not.
It's hard to evaluate the effectiveness of filtering in TurboCLT. I would suggest that you use ProfilerQuery against your own collection to test the effectiveness of some words. In my collection I found that selecting titles that contain "Series" or "Season" seemed to be fairly effective. But that's just for English titles.
Maybe I could implement something like this: Exclude titles that contains any of the words: [Series, Season, Serie, ...] Where you can add any word that seems appropriate. But, as I said, in TurboCLT it's very difficult to tell how effective this is. What do you think? | Posted: Topic Replies: 69, Topic Views: 13036 |

Quote: Look for episode dividers or the word "episode"? I considered that, but there are plenty of anthology movies that contain episodes. Amicus released a bunch of such films back in the day, such as Vault of Horror, Tales from the Crypt and others. And there many other examples. | Posted: Topic Replies: 69, Topic Views: 13036 |

Is it possible to add a settings option that filters out disc profiles for TV series?
I'll take a look at it, but I guess it would mean filtering out anything with genre Television, which would also include TV movies if they were flagged as such. Unless you can suggest another way to identify just TV series? | Posted: Topic Replies: 69, Topic Views: 13036 |

The other issues mentioned are being discussed in other threads, and I would suggest that you don't spread those discussions to this or other unrelated threads.
Regarding the online profile lists, as far as I know they are updated daily. I don't know exactly when, but if it's been more than a day since you last checked, you ought to see an incremental download. If you don't, then your local lists are most likely out-of-date.
There is of course the possibility that there are days when no profiles at all are added to the online database. And in that case you might not see a download. But in my experience that has seldom happened (at least before the server update).
Note, though, that just because you get an incremental update of the online profile list, that doesn't necessarily mean that there are any updates for your collection. You can still get "All DVD Profiles are up to date." | Posted: Topic Replies: 7, Topic Views: 4927 |

If the incremental update works, then fine. The point is to understand what the OPL is, and that if the incremental update fails you're not getting the latest updates (if any). | Posted: Topic Replies: 7, Topic Views: 4927 |

A few days ago I posted this in the Facebook group "DVD Profiler Users", thinking that people there might not be reading the forum as closely as most of you guys here. Still, I guess it wouldn't hurt to post this info here as well.
Quote: I have some new info regarding how to download the Online Profile List (hereafter referred to as the OPL). But just to make sure that we're all on the same page, I'd like to offer a short tutorial. Please bear with me if this is old news to you.
The OPL is a list of all profiles that are available in Invelos' online database. It contains some info on each profile. When you do an add by title, all the info that you see on that list comes from your local OPL (unless you click the Preview button - that data will be downloaded).
One piece of information in the OPL is the last change timestamp. When you select Refresh Updated Profiles, the online timestamps are compared to the local timestamps in your profiles, and if the online timestamp is newer, then that profile will show up as an available update.
The trouble that we are seeing is that when you select a function in Profiler than uses the OPL, Profiler tries to download an incremental update of the OPL. That means that it only downloads what's changed. Thus it's a much smaller download than a download of the full OPL. However, at the present, this incremental download does not seem to work. So, unless you do a full download, you'll still be working with the old OPL and will therefore not see any recent updates.
In earlier posts I have told you about two ways to get the full OPL; delete your local files or download it the way specified in the Knowledge Base. HOWEVER, it has just been pointed out to me that there is a third way: Click "Online/Refresh Online Profile List" while holding down the Ctrl key. I don't think this is documented anywhere.
Obviously having to download some 50+ MB of data every time you want to check for updates is annoying. Especially if you're paying for download traffic. So hopefully this problem will be rectified soon. | Posted: Topic Replies: 7, Topic Views: 4927 |

Quote: Or just hold the Ctrl key and select Refresh Online Profile List... under the Online... tab.
This just downloads the complete online profile list, you still need to Refresh Updated Profiles as usual. Hm, is that documented somewhere? I assume that it was implemented after Ken had written that article in the knowledge base. It's a pity Ken was so bad at updating the documentation. Or, in fact, documenting some special functions at all. Now much of it is just through oral tradition. | Posted: Topic Replies: 30, Topic Views: 10688 |

Download the file by right-clicking on the download link below and selecting "Save Target As". Then, browse to your "My Documents" folder, then into "DVD Profiler" from there. Save the downloaded file.
Download link: OnlineList.dod This works! Just make sure you download the file into the directory indicated, and then restart Profiler.
Thanks I'll try this out! Do you still the chance to decide whether or not to include certain updated data? It just downloads the online profile list. After that you can select Refresh Updated Profiles from the menu, just like before. | Posted: Topic Replies: 30, Topic Views: 10688 |

DpOnlineBrowser 1.5
Click on the image for video.
The search is now done in two phases. Phase 1 (the 6 leftmost columns) takes its data from your local online profile list, so it is quite fast, since no download is involved.
Phase 2, the remaining 4 columns, requires a download for each profile. This is done in the background, and you can see in real time how each row is being updated. This is much slower.
While phase 2 is performed, all the other functions of the program are functional. In phase 2 you can also have the program highlight profiles that are in your collection (see the two profiles in the illustration). You might think that this would be a simple thing that could even have been accomplished in phase 1. Unfortunately this turned out to be more complicated that I expected, and it also slows down phase 2 a bit further. Because of this, I have made this function optional. You can turn it on or off in the settings.
A note on the Amazon search. Popups like cookie prompts (or other prompts that come before the normal website) hinders the paste of the UPC in the search field. The same might go for login prompts. Once you are logged in and "cookied", the search should work.

TurboCLT 1.3.2
I found a sneaky little bug that I fixed. And while I was digging into the code I also implemented an option to turn the dropdown history on or off. Note that it will come into effect the next time the CLT page is loaded into the program.
I should also confess that the hyphen problem turned out not to be a bug in Microsoft's Dictionary control after all, but a side effect of some other code in my program. Microsoft is by no means perfect, but I shouldn't blame them for something that was actually my own fault. | Posted: Topic Replies: 69, Topic Views: 13036 |
