| Posted: | | | | The up -conversion is good but better when playing Blu-Ray. Don't need a remote, you can use your game controller but I do recommend you to by the Sony remote for the PS3. The remote is bluetooth so you have to by the PS3 Sony remote. |

| Posted: | | | | As Dragon 6 said, you could use your remote. Triangle gets you to enter an on screen menu, allowing you a series of choices. Also some buttons allow for quick access, for example L1 and R1 are for chapter skipping, L2 and R2 are for fast for/backwards (or the other way around, i don't use that very often ). I think you're manual should have some info on more options assigned to certain buttons. Ultimately, though, buying a remote, for me at least, is an easier way to watch and manouver thorugh a BR disc. The only problem i have with the remote are the Play, Pause and Stop button. The top button is Play and sometimes instead of pause (which i expected to be under Play) you end up pressing Stop. But this may just be me, and after a while you'll get used to it. Assigning the BR remote is also very easy and only has to be done once, so i think buying one would be my recommendation, Hope this helps, Have fun with your PS3. Ans if you want some games i'd recommend: • Uncharted: Drake's Fortune( review) • Ratchet & Clank ( review) • Warhawk ( review) • GTA 4 ( review) • Gran Turismo Prologue ( review) • Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( review) and of course, coming soon Metal Gear Solid 4:Guns of the Patriots. Good luck and enjoy, Paul |

| Posted: | | | | You want a real remote. I have a Harmony universal remote (which doesn't do Bluetooth - none of the Harmonys do yet ). I bought a 3rd party remote ( PlayStation 3 Blu Wave Remote), put the remote away and just used the dongle which is an IR receiver. Two downsides: 1) It takes one of your USB ports (which obviously also needs to be visible to the remote - in case the PS3 was going into a cabinet) 2) The one thing it can't do is power the PS3 on/off - that must be done manually. It hasn't been a hardship so far. They are chronically out of stock but see this topic for a IR-Bluetooth converter which would solve the power on/off issue. I can't up convert because my HDTV is component input only so i've kept my dedicated DVD player. It's easier to use for simple DVD play. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | Nice present. I'm right there with tweeter. I too use the Nyko remote. The reason I choose that was the infared signal. I can program my universal remote to send the signal. I also still have my progressive scan player for standard DVDs since I too have an "ancient" HDTV with component only inputs. |

Thanks in advance. I also recently got a PS3 along with the remote. The up-conversion looks pretty good, but blu movies look even better. I don't play all movies on it though. If the movie is widescreen enchanced then I do. | | | We're on a mission from God.

I'm thinking of getting a PS3 to play Blu ray movies. But even after I get it I will continue to use my HDD / DVD recorder to play dvds since that has HDMI as well (so upconverts) and is multi region. I have always had a multiregion player (and the blu ray isn't). | | | Paul |

I have always had a multiregion player (and the blu ray isn't). Actually quite a few of Blu-Ray releases are region-free. You can check out this list here. Plus another nice thing about the PS3 is that it is already version 2.0 (with firmware updates) already, so it can play Blu-Live. | | | We're on a mission from God.

| Posted: | | | | I don't use it as a DVD player, as mine is Region 3 and the majority of my DVDs are Region 1. I do however highly agree that buying that remote is a god idea! Using the game controller to navigate Blu Rays is just weird andawkward at best. Ever since I have the remote I am very happy with my PS3. If you want to do some gaming on the side as well (why else would you want a PS3...) then I would add Burnout Paradise review to the list provided by Paul. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. I'd have to recommend Call of Duty 4 on the PS3 as well, the game is ok but once online it becomes totally different and seriously addictive | | | |

| Posted: | | | | I use my PS3 for all my DVD playing. It's just so much quicker and more responsive than my Toshiba (HD DVD) for the task. As for the remote, I'm using a Nyko as well for my universal remote. But to be honest, it's so slow, I've gone back to using my game controller for everything. I'm planning to get one of these. They don't seem to have the slow response times the Nyko product has and will allow me to program my universal remote with all the buttons available on bigger remote (no more hitting the triangle and navigating the onscreen menu ) | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Just noticed it myself yesterday. Do you find the Nyko slow when using the remote that came with it? I've got mine programmed into my universal and haven't noted any delays. | | | Bad movie?
