Hard to believe "Brothers" was totally shut out; terrific little movie and the kind of thing I'd expect the Academy to like.

Did you really expect the best movies and artisans to be nominated?

Why would think things would be any different this year?

The Academy Awards were destroyed by politics and back-slapping long ago!

I'm pleased to see Up get a Best Picture nod, but I'm hoping that doesn't take away from it's Best Animated Film chances.

As for Visual Effects, while I'm sure the Star Trek & District 9 are happy to get nominated, I hope they realize they don't have a shot against Avatar.

Some of the winners seem to be obvious but if Avatar beats out the Hurt Locker it would not be the first time a terrible Cameron film has denied a far more worthy movie of it's credit.

Remember L.A Confidential.

I was hoping the expanded nominations would mean animated best picture noms. It looks like Up made it.

Too bad 'Winter in wartime' didn't make it to the list.
Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

Edwin, which release of Oorlogswinter should I buy on my next stay in the Netherlands? I was thinking about grabbing it up last time but it was a bit expensive then and I knew nothing about it. I speak Dutch but dutch subtitles at least would be nice. Blu or DVD is okay.

can't seem to find out why Hurt Locker from 2008 wasn't nominated last year. The film debuted at a number of film festivals back in late 2008 ..
maybe it was to give James a run for his money and have one of his ex wives up for competition maybe??

Eligibility is based on its Los Angeles theatrical date. Rules for Eligibility

I'm not Erwin but I do take the liberty to answer. The NL BluRay version has Dutch, English and French subtitles and is not region locked. Back cover says so (8713053800016). The disk was published 28-4-2009, so the DVD version may already be in the bargain basement.

For bargain basement check the Free Record Shop retail chain, for 'normal' Mediamarkt is usually the cheapest. I bought the BR in September for € 21.99.

The film version of "Oorlogswinter" can be bought on DVD from Cosmox for €8,99.
Free Record Shop has a 2-disc Special Edition for €9,99.

The Blu-ray is currently cheapest at bol.com.

Free Record Shop is offering a 3DVD box containing the original 1975 TV series for €6,99.

I've got the three disc edition, in the 1975 series, and the 3 dics special edition from the newest movie. Other then that, I can't tell you.
