| Posted: | | | | Version 3.8 includes the ability to add to multiple collection types at the same time without leaving the Add DVD window. While testing this, I've run into what seems to be an inconsistency in the current handling of collection numbers. Before I "fix" it, I need to know whether users are happy with the current behavior or would like it changed. So, feedback please.
This pertains to custom collection types which are part of the owned collection. If "globally unique" collection numbers is unchecked, the program will currently suggest collection numbers which are not used in the custom collection but which are used in the main owned category (or other sub-categories). This results in duplicate collection numbers in the 'Owned' listing.
My first thought is to change the program so that sub-collections of the 'Owned' category do not share collection numbers, regardless of the 'globally unique' setting. However, if the current behavior is desired, I can leave it alone. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not sure which option to choose, so I'll just describe how I'd like it to work.
I'd like to be able to assign unique sequential collection numbers to my "custom" collection list AND have the "Owned" have it's own unique sequential collection number. So I guess I do not want duplicates numbers in the "Owned" area, but I still want sequential numbers in the custom area.
Does that even make sense? | | | Hal |

I'm inclined to say fix it, but I couldn't say for sure since I don't do that. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

If someone chooses to create a custom category and link it to display in the Owned category, then it should behave as if it is a part of the owned category.
I also do not use the feature (though I use custom categories,) but that is nonetheless my reasoning on the issue. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | I voted fix it. For the time being, I keep "globally unique" checked to make sure I don't have dupilicate collection numbers for Custom categories which are part of my "Owned" e.g. these two custom collections are both part of my "Owned": "Blu-ray" "DVD" I want to make sure a DVD doesn't have the same collection number as a Blu-ray. Not fixing it could cause more grief if the users complain later. Better to settle it up front. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Better to settle it up front. Yes, it's already fixed. In this case I just had to check whether users were counting on the current behavior. | | | Invelos Software, Inc.
