Hang on. I thought you got the error when importing XML from another (competitive) program using BulkEdit. Please, I need to be exactly clear on the scenario, and the original source of the XML file. There are only specific formats that I support.

If you have edited the XML, it would be unfair not to reveal that information, and potentially a huge waste of my time. I hope you will respect that. Using Excel to edit the XML can cause serious problems due to the conversion of numeric strings to eponential format (e.g. the profile ID / UPC gets corrupted). My instructions for using BulkEdit specifically warn against this.Thanks.

I honestly wouldn't know where to start with editing an xml file. If I had then I would've put it down to me being a numpty and tired again. I have tried importing from the competitors application and also from dvdprofiler - with exactly the same reslts.

Ok, great. Just wanted to make sure. Send me the file, and we'll go from there - hopefully with success.
Thanks for your support.

BulkEdit V1.25 Available

Changes:
  • BulkEdit Icons have been added to all menus, so you know which ones are from the plugin.

  • Operation on Profiler 3.6 supported

  • This release is a minor tweak to allow running on 3.6. No functionality has been added or changed. The plugin toolkit for 3.5/3.6 is not yet available.

Be sure to change the installation directory to reflect which copy of Profiler you want to run on, e.g. "\DVD Profiler Beta" vs. "\DVD Profiler".

Obviously, I will have a lot of work to do to catch up, once I get the tools. (Just got'em! Yaaay)

Don't know if anyone has asked this, but I don't see in the edit plugin were you can bulk edit Watched By. Maybe I missed this, but would be a nice feature. I have never used the watched by in the profiler with the time it takes to do things like that 1 profile at a time.

Adding a new "Watched By" date in bulk can already be done in DVDProfiler. Just flag the profiles and select "Collection->Flagged->Last Watched..."). You even have the option to set the last watched date to "Purchase Date", which is a good way to give all DVDs at least one watched date as a starting point.

Yeah, I tried to avoid putting stuff in that could already be done, or was done by another plugin (e.g., Cast/Crew Edit).

Ya didn't see it in the profiler. Glad it is there. By the way I find that the Profiler loads much slower now that I added the BulkEdit. Any clue as to why? I like the plugin and don't want to have to uninstall it. Last time I loaded the Profiler I waited for at least a minute after the splash load screen was done loading.

Sorry about that. It may be some code I have that works around limitations of the plugin API, which have been fixed for 3.6. The tooklit still has bugs though, and most of us developers have not yet fully deployed using the new tools.

The delay may be a one-time only thing, but if not I suggest turning off the plugin in Tools/View Plugins menu when you don't need it, until I get around to fixing the problem. Thanks for the reminder.

Did that work for you? It would be good feedback to know for the future.

    Hi, Mediadogg,

Thanks again for all your great work on this plugin.

Good news!  I downloaded v1.25, after uninstalling the previous version, and it loaded this time!  (I know, it doesn't take much to excite me...)    BulkEdit shows up in the menu, launches fine, etc.

So now I'm on to my main task, which is to replace all the values in the "Wish Priority" field with 0.  (Looking at an XML export of my wishlist, it appears that having a value of 0 will cause the field to show up as blank in the application and online:  1="Vague Interest", 2="Like to Have", etc.)  The problem I'm having at the moment is that I can only get the Profile ID to display in the sheet/work area.  I've managed to check the Wish Priority field, but it isn't being added on the right-hand side of the screen.  The same holds true for other fields I've tried to check and uncheck.

Perhaps I'm not understanding the operation of the program correctly, but how do I get that field to appear, so that I can select it and work on it?  Right now, the only field I'm able to select is Profile ID, and naturally, I get a message that it's read only (not that I'd want to alter it).

Would an alternative be to export all the records, do a search and replace on that field in another program, and then re-import the data?  I'm stuck.

I'd really appreciate your help in getting over this final hurdle so that I won't have to edit all of these Wishlist profiles by hand, one at a time.

    Thanks very much!

    @bobpierce,
Congratulations! Glad things are working out. Now I need to know whether my documation is truly inadequate for your needs or instead perhaps you missed the explicit links to examples and screen shots in the lead post of this thread?

All you need to do is checkmark the fields (Wishlist) you want to edit and use the dropdown. There is also quite a bit of other instructions for how to use Multi-Copy for bulk changes.

(Update: now I notice that you did attempt to checkmark the fields, but I have no clue why it doesn't work for you. I have never seen that problem.)

The whole point of the editor is so that you can avoid the process you described - no need to edit the XML and import, unless you just want to.
    Thanks for your support.

Thanks for replying, Mediadogg, and thanks also for probably the most gracious and tactful "RTFM!" I've ever received in response to a question.

I've read the documentation and studied the screenshots, and this may indeed be a case of a new problem.  To clarify:  I assume that when I check one of the fields on the left side of the screen, that column should appear next to the ID on the right.  That makes perfect sense.  Unfortunately, nothing happens when I check any of the boxes/fields.    I can send you screenshots, if it would help.

Selecting fields on which to operate and marking them as "active" is pretty foundational to the use of this kind of utility, so I can't go much farther with it until I can get that to work.  What did you think of my idea to export the profiles I wanted to change, doing a search-and-replace on those values in an external tool, and then re-importing them?  Would that be an option?  If so, are there any "gotchas" I should watch out for?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Bob

I take your word for it, no need for screen shots. Did you try to load any data, or just stop when the column didn't instantly appear? If not, try actually loading some records and see what happens. Also, any fields that are included in the disc information need the Disc Info box to be checked as well.

I thought I already commented on this. The program was designed to explicity avoid needing to do this for most things. Gotchas will be the potential for more errors than doing it the other way. And to be honest, I don't remember how well the process works for updating a profile - the Import was designed mainly for bringing in new profiles en masse, such as migrating from another program.
