| | Posted: | | | | Nice to see that I am not the only one whith that kind of "obsession"  And I fully agree with you that series became more interesting than movies. The more movies I have seen, the less "attractive" the newer ones are as nearly none of them really has something "new". All kinds of stories might have been told, and only re-arranging the "words" of a story or combining passages of several stories to a "new" one doesn't make it really "new". A couple of years ago I had reached my 500th complete series, in January this year I felt excited being at 1000 complete ones, and actually # 1160 is on it's way to me. Sometimes release is horrible: I was happy when this-and-that series finally was released on DVD, but then there was only one or two seasons - and then nothing else anymore :-( Or the local versions in Germany I simply couldn't effort. Good that neighbour countries also had releases with german audio :-) I will never forget when I wanted to buy "Charmed". Each of the 8 seasons was released in two volumes in Germany, and each volum was for about 30 Euro. Ooooh! Totally 480 bucks? No Idea! But then I got the chance to buy the Danish box with the whole season - used - on ebay for less than 140 Euro - including postage. During the time I learned that quite often they release just a few seasons of a series - to see if enough people want it before they continue. And the first release always is horribly expensive. So I am happy to live in a "digital time"! If now there is a series running on TV (I always hated waiting a whole week to see the next episode) I record each episode, and when the season is finished, I create BluRays (in the past DVDs) myself to watch the whole season in a row. As I nearly never had any problem with buying series/seasons used and I have seen what I wanted to see, patience saved me a huge load of money. Within the last couple of years I replaced nearly all my own recordings with (used) official releases for just a few bucks. "Buff" was for 30 Euro each season at it's release but then my own recordings did their job. And last year I found the whole series on the street market - for just 10 Euro! Complete! I can't translate it better than "ebay small adds", and seems to be some only european service, maybe even only Germany. Here people place their advertisments what they have for sale - and you can do unimaginable bargains. And discovering this made the number of my complete series exploding. Just searching for "complete series" in their advertisments, I got positively shocked and happy at the same time for how less money some people sell their series. But meanwhile I am at a point where the small number of series I still don't have in my collection are either much too expensive or nowhere available used or even not released. I am curious how far I will go with my collection (as my flat doesn't grow, too) before I stop. But in a time where it looks like streaming kills any kind of discs and so many people are happy to get a few bucks for series collectors would lick their fingers, I will move one as long as I find a little bit of room. The longest one I own complete so far (and still running on TV) is "Großstadtrevier" (so far nearly 22.000 minutes), the longest one I just started is "Lindenstraße" (so far I own just 4 seasons but the series ran for 1758 episodes - about 30 minutes each - from 1985 - 2020) and the two longest ones I don't have anything from so far are "Derrick" and "Mord ist ihr Hobby" (Murder, she wrote). And to make it clear: "Series" is always from TV (or Netflix or Amazon...)! As the whole MCU meanwhile looks like a TV-Series, too, but with quite long episodes, I will never count movie series (Rocky, Fast & Furious, Friday the 13th....) as "series". I might get a shock about the number of complete series if I would count them, too - but maybe I should check out their number to find out |
