Just to clarify. Let's take an example of any James Bond Film, funded and distributed by either UA or MGM both US companies, but the actual Production Company Eon Productions is UK based, so I would say COO=UK.
Skip Yes, if the main production company is correctly documented to be Eon and Eon is correctly documented to be UK based, the CoO is UK. Funding and distribution has no relevance to the country of origin as used by DVD profiler. | | | Last edited: by RHo |

Funding and distribution has no relevance to the country of origin as used by DVD profiler. I just love these "statements of fact"! Since the CoO field is not even referred to in the Rules, exactly how is it that you know "Funding and distribution has no relevance to country of origin as used by DVD profiler"? The fact that Gerri has publicly stated that the CoO for LOTR is the U.S would tend to undermine your supposed "fact". Based on the way this information is "displayed" in the default skin "Produced: Year in Country", one might argue that CoO is supposed to be the country where the film was produced regardless of who produced it. Finding such information, however, would be somewhat difficult at times. I believe the current "accepted practice" of using the country of residence of the "main" production company makes the most sense, however, it is far from cut and dry. | | | Hal |

Skip Let me help you, Hal. THIS would have been a rational comment. The fact that Gerri has publicly stated that the CoO for LOTR is the U.S would tend to undermine your comment. Skip And again with the name-calling. Just incapable of civility. My comments were directed at RHo not you, and were specifically directed at HIS statement that "Funding and distribution has no relevance to the country of origin as used by DVD profiler." Since the Rules do not address this field AT ALL, I'd like to know how he can make this "statement of fact". I find it amusingly ironic that the author of the majority of the offensive posts in this forum feels it is his place to re-write someone else's post to be less offensive. That's a good one! And Dvdjon, I do not see where either Gerri or Ken chimed in on the thread that you have referenced (nor did I, not thta that matters). We can reach all the agreements that we want here on this forum that we wish, but until one of them (Ken or Gerri) actually blesses it or writes it into the Rules, it just a bunch of words. There is currently no Invelos definition of the use of the CoO field. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | Hal, Gerri PMd me, telling me that at the time of her original statement, she thought that WingNut was a US company and gave me permission to post it in the current thread at the time. I'll see if I can track it down and edit this post, but Gerri did confirm that we use the country of the primary production company. But it would be nice to have this added to the rules. Edit: I don't know how to link to a specific post, but it's at the bottom of this page. And Skip, there was no need to call Hal names - there is a lot of confusion still over this field and he was perfectly entitled to disagree. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | I use a cross between where the production company is located (there's enough US based ones that it makes it easy) and what it says in the end credits, near the very end in the legal box. I've noticed that most from US companies say something like "this picture is copyright XX/XX United States" and others have said different countries. |

This time, north you are wrong, there was noi need for the attitude Hal brought with his post ABSOLUTELY none. As I outlined he could have left the SAME post WITHPOUT the attitude. The man needs to learn how to behave like a man instead of a child. And thenmhe acts like HE was the one who was put upon. Hal, GROW UP. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. I have been searching and have found the following where Gerri confirms that it should be based on where the Production companies are based - ThreadPosted: March 14, 2007 2:52 PM | | | Paul | | | Last edited: by pauls42 |

| Posted: | | | | BTW, north, I have no problem with Hal disagreeing with me, I have a problem with his snotty attitude. As I demonstrated he COULD have disagreed WITHOUT being disagreeable, but Hal is incapable of that. As he has repeatedly demonstrated. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it.
