| Posted: | | | | Hardly ever for me. I can think of only 3 times that I've done so...once because I bought a movie that was edited for "family content" but didn't think to look and opened it before I realized, so had to buy the unedited movie. Did keep the edited, but it was only a few bucks so I didn't really lose that much money on it. The second was because it was in a 2 pack and the 2nd movie was only offered in the 2-pack. The last one was because I love the movie (Dirty Dancing) and the new version had a lot of extras that I wanted to see than the one I originally had.
Do people consider buying DVD to replace VHS double dipping? I am replacing my VHS library with DVD, but don't really considered that double dipping, myself. It's such an upgrade...plus I get rid of the VHS once it's replaced. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | I personally don't consider replacing vhs with dvds double dipping, though i never really had many vhs.
I just realized i never really answered the question myself.
I used to double dip, as i wanted the latest and greatest, but recently because so many of the dvds i have seem to be released in new versions i took a no double dip stance. As you can see (if you look at my collection) i do have a couple duplicate titles. And additionally i did upgrade highlander and replacement killers. Billy Madison might be on there twice two but thats because they waited till right after i got the 2 pack for happy gilmore (which the previous version wasn't widescreen) they released them seperatly but since that was a gift i don't mind, and same with turtles (a gift but i would have bought it anyway) and the first one i had in the snapper case as well.
But the main reason I asked is because of some of the disney titles, three movies i bought because i wanted to make sure i had them before they were re-vaulted (Dumbo, Robin Hood, and The Fox And The Hound) and all three were re-released in new editions....its pretty annoying/frustrating (to the point its now a running joke i have) that no matter how long i wait to get a dvd (also trying to make sure it doesnt go oop before i get it) they seem to release a new version (a lot of the times with new footage) shortly after i get it

| Posted: | | | | I haven't really had a big problem with Disney b/c I missed a lot of the original DVD releases...I was still buying VHS back at the beginning, (which reminds me, I do have a 4th...bought Robin Hood used and within a month or two, they announced the new one! Argh!). Though with Disney, they do usually wait several years between releases.
It's a tough call, but I'm with you, too many rereleases are being put out with the only difference being an extra commentary or extra featurette and it's not worth the extra money for just one new thing. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | No, at least, never intentionally. I have too many new ones I want/need to be prepared to spend that money on repeating myself. I am interested primarily in the movie/episodes and not the special features. i do have a few repeats but that was generally an error on my part or a partial series replaced with the complete series when the rest are not available as seperate entities. I use these duplicates as gifts for the family and friends as needed and has served me well for a couple of emergency gift requirements. | | | <---------Mithrandir, Laverne and Shirley Caroline |

I don't have a PDA but I printed a one-sheet DVDP Report in very small print and keep it in my wallet just for that reason: avoid the "Oops!..." May years ago I had a similar report. But since I've got about 5000 profiles now - about half and half owned and wishlist - so a printout is totally out of the question for me. For me, the PDA's the thing. I just have to remember to have it with me when I am tempted to make a DVD purchase. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I'd have to carry both it and a large magnifying glass to read it. Also, two sheets folded up would really stuff my already crammed wallet. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? | Posted: | | | | I have Doubled Dipped many times, especially when I have bought region DVDs. Sometimes I will buy the R1 here in the US because I loved the movie and I want to watch it and then I will find an Japanese version in a nice digipack that I just got to have (I have a thing for Digis and Steelbooks, what can I say).
So I will double dip for LEs, SEs, and Director's Cuts. I have also double dipped for Japanese Ultimate Editions and the like as well as special packaging versions that include exclusive extra discs along or comic books or OSTs, etc... | | | My Collection!!! |

I think I saw that.. oh well another week... Maybe at some retailers, I don't know. I ordered one from Best Buy to pick up later this afternoon at the local store, and it's been confirmed as in stock and reserved for pick up. Oddly, this was the only store in this area that actually got it in stock. | | | Corey |
