Quote: Shelf? Sounds like quite a lot of work. Have you considered a pile in the corner of the room? What do you think is in front of the bookcase? You seem to have them stored the exact same way as me! Well, I have a cabinet in another room where I have the first 200 sorted by collection number. But it is getting more and more a pain in the neck; I think I'll have to get back to sorting alphabetically. If I weren't so lazy it would be done already | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | I think this might be my first post in almost a year... Although some of my favorites are on shelves, I store most of mine in DJ cases which hold 510 discs each, using DVDP's loaction feature to keep track of what case and sleeve they are in. I rearrange them sometimes to keep TV shows or sequels together. My collection was taking over my house and I had to find a more condensed method of storage. It was a lot for me to say goodbye to keepcases and inserts, but I am a much happier man for it. | | | Last edited: by Erin |

you could still sort alphabetically and make a similar exception for related movies. You could even change the sort title in dvd profiler for your bond movies to be Bond 01, Bond 02, etc Haven't gotten around to changing things in DVD profiler, but I give titles like this a prefix in my mind like James Bond: Live and Let Die, James Bond: Goldeneye, etc... So I would keep them in the J section, and then organize them chronologically. It just makes them easier to find. I've considered keeping them in the J section and alphabetized, but that doesn't make as much sense in my opinion |

| Posted: | | | | Now that I have my library set up, here is what I do.
I use an alphanumeric sort by genre using the following: (the rest is pretty useless to me and get in the way) Accessories Action Classic - (Silent Films) Comedy Documentary/Special Interest Drama Family Horror Music Musical Science-Fiction Suspense/Thriller Television - (by title) War Western
In addition to those I have separate sections for Film/Crime Noir, Foreign Language, and my box sets.
I have been considering the addition of Fantasy but most of those fall under science-fiction and I have fewer than 150 that would be considered fantasy anyway.
I also change my sort titles in order to group certain films such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Bond, etc. | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |

I use a modified alphabetical approach - I keep series and collections like the Bond movies together (under "Bond") even when they're not part of an official box set think flexible and creative |

| Posted: | | | | Batting Butler is the man (or woman): My DVDs are stored alphabetically but Series and other related movies are kept together. I keep them in neat white boxes 'cause due to DVD Profiler you don't have to stack them openly on shelves (for which I wouldn't have the room) Headbanger http://www.invelos.com/MessagePost.aspx?task=reply&topicid=251184#a Roll Eyes |

| Posted: | | | | I prefer shelving/sorting by title, alphabetically. Having said that -- I ran out of room on my DVD shelves years ago. So I took all the silent-era DVDs and pulled them, and placed them in my first drawer (of six) that I have my CDs stored in. Those are in Production Year order, from 1877 to 1929, and alphabetical within each year.
Now that I've once again outgrown my shelves with sound-era DVDs, I'm in the middle of pulling all single-disc DVDs with no inserts (booklets, chapter-listings, etc.) off the shelves, placing the discs in 256-disc binder-like cases, and storing the DVD cases in boxes elsewhere. Maybe by April my collection with be less scattered -- unlike my piles in the living room & library, on the library shelves (where they belong), in the CD drawer, in the three or four binders.
Organized? If only wishing would allow my house to grow with my stuff... | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
