Man I would love to see your storage area. This thing would fill up a couple bedrooms. Of course, the 17K number is profiles, the actual number of titles would be something over 12K (a few thousand profiles inflated by TV series disc-level). I am in process of moving in the next month or two, so I recently packed just my DVD Collection. It took 36 boxes that were 24x18x18 (each holding around 300 DVDs), with only the Criterion Collection (550+ titles) and my Blu-ray collection (1500+ titles) left out of storage for viewing. The DVD collection, when displayed, took up one bedroom. Of course, it was so tightly packed that you had to squeeze between the bookcases and wall shelves. The titles were usually piled up, the top of the case forward, to take up every inch of the bookcase, rather than spine facing forward, which probably would have required triple the space. The Blu-rays and the Criterion Collection were in the family room, and the Box Sets in the living room. I have yet to figure out what to do with them in the new house (which luckily is about 3 times the size of my current residence that I've lived in for the last 28 years). I've thought about building some sort of sliding media storage system in the basement, sort of like medical records in doctor's offices. The idea is to slide the shelves together on a rail to compress as much space as possible and slide them back when I need to access them. |
