Air conditioning is such an alien foreign thing to me. Never had one or used one.
I just open a window, that seems to work pretty well. 
I don't think they need air-con north of Hadrian's Wall.....does the temperature ever get above freezing, up there?  When the sun comes out in Scotland it's like what a total eclipse is to the rest of the world  Also the Scottish border was establish by the treaty of York in 1237.
