Rather than a repair install, I would try a full uninstall, reboot, and then reinstall of the .Net framework 2.0.

Sounds like it's time for "Re-Launching my sytem from scratch".
OR
You may want to take a "System-Repair" of Windows into consideration.
For doing this put your Windows DVD into your ROM Drive and restart your machine.
When prompted to choose between "New installation" and "Repair", choose Repair.

You'd have to re-install all drivers afterwards.

EDIT: Mark beat me, my text was too long.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Uninstalled .net framework 3.5 - 3.0 -2.0
Rebooted
Installed .Net framework 2.0
Rebooted

Plugins fail again.

I'm not a "Repair Windows" fun.
I believe it will produce more problems than it will solve.

Of course I know that a complete format will solve all problems , but believe me it is not that easy.

I've tons of applications installed (and working so far).

It will take me a full week's work !!!

I'd rather live with plugins not working (provided  everything else works) than format my PC.
Maybe I'll install DVD profiler in a virtual machine (it's stupid I know but it will work!!)

I suppose nobody else has any other ideas.

One additional idea - create a new Windows account with admin rights.  Reinstall DVD Profiler there and try with plugins.  If it works, try setting the account to your standard Windows rights and try again.

No need to be lazy, just click the 'registration' button at the top of this page.  All the info is there.

Now the the problem has been pin-pointed
Does anyone know how to fix my (obviously) corrupted Windows User profile.

Is it a registry problem, a security issue (access rights to certain folders), something else?

Please have in my mind that the problematic user is the Windows Local Administrator (not a user with admin rights but the build in Administrator user)

My OS is Windows XP x64 SP2.

It would be nice to be able to "fix" the user instead of creating a new one.
I know this is not a Microsoft support site , but I'd be grateful if someone would help me find the problem and I could then ask someone In a windows support forum

Thanks again to everybody that helped

Yes, but it requires some skills and if you don't know how to do it, I bet that it would take much more time than creating a new one. The chances that you won't get as good end result after all are also quite prominent. If you are willing to try heres your tool:

With Process monitor you can see in real time if some account is not allowed to write/read certain registry keys / files.

On Windows XP it doesn't have any difference if you are using BUILTIN\Administrator account or any other account which is a member of Administrators group since ACLs are usually set for Administrators Group.

I would just create a new user instead of trying to fix broken account unless you have set yourself ACLs just for that account. MUCH less work and far better chances for good results. Going through ACLs with Process Monitor is very time consuming even if you actually know what you are doing.

First action that I made when faced with the issues was to run process monitor to see security issues and
believe it or not, I did not trace any ACCESS Denied either on Files or on Registry Keys.

Anyway thanks for your help, I'll take a look on the tool you mentioned and see whether I can make any use of it.
Otherwise I'll just create my new user and put an end on this !!

Out of curiosity, which tool did you use?

My best guess would be corrupted ntuser.dat file that contains registry for that user. There's not much to do in such cases. Of course you can just rename that file (it will be recreated during the login), but after that you will find out that setting your profile as you like it takes as much work as creating a new one.

Create new user, but don't delete the old one. Then you can copy some files from your old profile to new one and make the job a bit easier.

BTW, using XP as an administrator isn't the best possible idea...

I already tried Registry Restore with ERUNT .
I have daily Registry Backups.

But that did not help
