In those cases where the data really isn't to be found in our database you have the possibility to do it the "recommended way", which would be to enter the data of the actual DVD into the profile. Or you could use one of the tools pointed out by Mediadogg... Right on. But to clarify one thing, one of those tools, DVDPca pulls data directly from the DVD.  | | | Thanks for your support.

| | Posted: | | | | New user here (only been using for maybe a month or so), but am LOVING DVD Profiler. (Was searching for one for a bit and am glad I decided to choose this one.) My collection isn't nearly as large as several of you folks here (disc count is at around 2700, inclusive of DVD and BD) but I'm enjoying cataloging my collection. Submitted only about 7 so far and a few more cover scans, and have maybe another 40 or so to add.
mediadogg, I tried installing your DVDPca plugin but I have no idea how to use it. I tried it on one disc but I couldn't figure out what to do. I clicked on it under "Tools" and it opened its own window, and another window opened in DVD Profiler directly and I didn't notice any info added. So I manually added everything, and the darn thing didn't save. So I abandoned the plugin and have started inputting discs manually.
Is there instructions anywhere on how to use DVDPca? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but again I could not figure it out. |

Thanks for the welcome, Parsec. I'm kind of a movie addict (aside from the BDs and DVDs I have around 500 LDs!), and have been wanting to catalog my collection for awhile now. Finally got around to it and am very happy to have found DVD Profiler.
mediadogg, I'm going to retry using your plugin. Thank you for adding more instructions; I'll see if I can figure it out this time. |

Is it generally recommended to use a plugin like DJ Doena's Cast/Crew Edit 2? Does it pull accurate data? I don't want to add the info if there's the potential that there might be inaccuracies (I suppose I could run the end credits to verify the info, in which case I may as well just have done it manually to begin with).
Thanks again for all the input, all. Really enjoying the software and I hope to be able to contribute to this community (my girlfriend is getting annoyed with me I think, as this has become an obsession...heh). |

The only real accurate way to get the info in is to verify it with the end credits... which is also what the Contribution Rules tell you to do. I personally only go by the end credits.... as I want to be sure that my info is always accurate to the film. | | | | Pete |

Not recommended because imdb own the info Cast/Crew Edit rips for your list ie: it's their database info. But, if you're lazy like me, you could create a list from that then run the dvd on your computer (I use VLC), move to the credits and it's easy to check off your list against the credits, editing where necessary. This basically just saves typing and allows you to check as fast as the credits scroll through. | | | | Last edited: by Parsec |

As per the DVDPca thread in plugins.. I can't get it to work with my Win7 machine, so haven't actually used it. Waiting for you to make a version that relies on .NET 4 Oh yeah, forgot about that. Maybe I'll try the .NET4 route soon. I have been reluctant for fear that it would be incompatible with a lot of user's environements. I like the idea of giving it a try. I'll PM you with link to a .NET4 standalone as a test. For the record, all my machines are now Win7 - both x32 and x64, so there is something else going on - we just don't know what ... | | | Thanks for your support.
