| Posted: | | | | Yes, it's Doug's wiki I am referring to.
@eommen Your points are valid and actually something I would like to see, actually it's really what I was pushing for at the beginning. But, as many have said it's most probably a massive task to get the wiki to a stage where it would compliment the Invelos website.
I am now thinking maybe we should try and improve Doug's wiki and get it better organised. Find a way to move useful forum answers to problems into wiki format. Make a few howto and other guides (I have started on a couple of howto's) and basically get it to a self supporting stage where Ken might be happy to move it to the Invelos website.
While it looks a fair bit of work, in the long run it's most probably better then the same people answering the same questions all the time in the forums. Also, it may increase the percentage of DvdProfiler users who might like to contribute. Honestly, when you look at the right way to do things within DvdProfiler and contributions etc, it's actually a very confusing and difficult learning curve. We need to make this learning curve easier. |

| Posted: | | | | Actually, since all information is there but just widely dispersed, I think it is not as huge as we think. My personal guestimate would be a month's work based on a 40 h working week, assuming it is by someone who already knows how to edit a wiki and has a grasp on priorities within the documentation. Run it through the beta forum for errors and completeness and in say two month's time DVDprofiler would have finally a decent help. That is a huge task for us doing that in spare time -- with the added complexity of doing it as a team effort, which as a consequence would take many months to complete. So that is why, IMHO, it never really flies. But as Invelos IS a commercial enterprise, it could offer it as a limited job to a freelancer. Heck, some of the people here have said themselves they are at present out of a job, so perhaps they'd qualify. And being paid if (and only if) they deliver a decent job, is a powerful incentive. In that way, Ken could keep his concentration on programming. Not saying he should do it like that, but there are more ways to skin a cat as the saying goes if I remember well. (no offence to all you cat lovers ou there ). All it requires is that Invelos takes the initiative rather than the current wait and see approach. | | | Eric

I would even be willing to contribute to funding such a project, so long as the writer(s) and content are sanctioned by Invelos. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. I'll mail Doug and ask him to run this fix. But in the past this error wasn't a real problem, the wiki grumbles but the changes are saved anyways. I'll test if this has changed. Oh yes PLEASE! I'm suggesting this since the dawn of time ... well maybe just since 2005 when Doug launched the Wiki. I don't know about other, dormant, contributors but I would migrate my articles in a heartbeat. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki | | | Last edited: by Mithi |

DVDoug, but his last forum visit was Saturday, July 10, 2010 6:54 AM, so it's safe to assume that he isn't active here any more. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | Is it worthwhile using his wiki then? Seems he may have little interest in it anymore if the forum visits are anything to go by. |

| Posted: | | | | Well, on his web site you can still find useful links 'of old', but most is now quite outdated. Even the link to his collection shows a collection with no recent titles at first glance. Seems like a dead site since 2007. I guess he has a girlfriend now . Yet there is a Facebook link there on which account he posted this month a new photograph. So he is still alive and 'kickin' , just not on the DVD scene. Anyways, I invited him to join this thread, but I have no clue whether he'll pick up the message fast and is interested. Wait and see. | | | Eric

Well, as long as we don't have anything better: YESSure one of us could start a new wiki (and I thought about it at times) but why? As long as the old one is running, even with it's little tics on the editing-side, I don't really care if the owner partakes or not. Should in a distant and unlikely future the contributions to the wiki reach such an amount that some real problems come up we can always migrate. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | Starting to make me lean towards petitioning Invelos/Ken to add a wiki somewhere on the Invelos site.. for us users to maintain.
If we can get enough users to support it (ie: contribute). Not real keen updating a wiki which could go missing tomorrow... |

Would love to see this happening, I'll just not hold my breath. It was suggested several times in the past with no reaction whatsoever. Quote: Not real keen updating a wiki which could go missing tomorrow... Well Invelos could be gone tomorrow, or the whole Internet for that matter. Why not use what is there now instead of waiting for something better that may never come? And as for "go missing": Backups! cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | Well the main page of the wiki has the tips and tricks ending with a link "and many more", so it's in that page.
Personally I'd like to see them all listed on the front page, I didn't even realise there was a text description already there about adding by Disc ID. |

| Posted: | | | | Parsec,
A very fine page indeed, my compliments. Though I think, after adding the disks (either by EAN or by disk ID), some words to move those disks into the box set profile (Edit profile -> Box Set contents -> Add/remove) would really complete that 'how to'. | | | Eric
