Glad I could help.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Because in the OP, he mentioned using a scanner, and if the scanner didn't load the #'s as if using a keyboard it wouldn't work. But sorry for suggesting something short of a complete removal of the program.

The OP said he scanned in the UPC code and the profile didn't show up.  I, and it seems everybody but you and bbbbb, took that to mean there was an issue with the program, not a scanner.  Since bbbbb's reply had nothing to do with that issue, I asked the question.  As your explanation didn't resolve the question, I clarified my question...not quite sure why that would rub you the wrong way.

Big to Lewis and Lithurge for resolving the issue.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
