| Posted: | | | | I love this plugin and use it all the time... I have one suggestion though, if it could be implemented into it: I always parse art credits with crew, but after parsing I always delete every art credit after costume design (normally starting from make-up credits) before pasting them into the profile, because I am not particularly interested in the rest of them, and it will help my database to be remain little less bloated. Only after I have removed those (to me) unnecessary art credits I click on "Get Birth Years". What I would like see implemented, if at all reasonable, is that those crew members that are removed from the results window after parsing, would not be entered into local cache. These days I get often false alarms ("you have person N.N. in your cache with and without birth year" or something to that effect) and when I check this N.N. I notice I only have one of that name in my database, because he/she was credited with some of the art credits that I didn't include when parsing the information with your plugin. The credit is in the plugin's cache, but not in my database. So if it would be possible to prevent the names, removed from the results window after parsing, to be included in the cache (only if they are not already there from earlier parsings, of course) that would make this superb plugin even more superb | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me. | Posted: | | | | I'm afraid that's not really possible. The cache lives and breathes througout the program and cannot really determine if you remove some lines from the grid after the parsing is done.
Especially since you could parse several movies in one session and the grids would constantly show new content.
What you could do, however, is remove all these credit (sub)types you don't like from the transformation.xml and then chose not to deal with custom credits. This way they aren't considered for the cache in the first place. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for the explanation, I understand the point. And big thanks for the tip about transformation.xml! I hadn't checked that out at all before, but removing those unwanted credit types there from the subcategories does indeed exactly what I need. | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me. | Posted: | | | | DJ,
ran into a problem with CCE2 not parsing some crew credits.
Example: The Tortoise and the Hare (Short, 1935)
Scanning results in just giving back: Walt Disney as producer but none of the other uncredited cast
Not returning for example Wilfred Jackson (Director, uncredited) and other uncredited crew
All Crew flags set except 'Other' & 'Soundtrack'. Also set all flags - no difference in scanning results. This happens for all short films on the 'Lustige Welt der Melodien" Disney DVD. | | | Last edited: by TraunStaa |

| Posted: | | | | Pretty big jump in the version numer. So whats new? The version hints are for 1.9.1.0, at least in the update zip. |

| Posted: | | | | Nothing, really :D No, I found a problem when someone uses more than one of my plugins and one of these plugins uses a different version of my toolbox library then that could lead to compilcations. There is a workaround for this and I implemented it and decided to re-deploy all my tools and plugins using the toolbox library regardless of actual changes. Besides, the tool is called "Cast / Crew Edit 2" so it was about time it actually reached that version number (CCE1 was basically an unusable prototype where you still had to do most things by hand, you can scroll back in the release notes to find it ) But for actual changes, I think the last thing I implemented was a message queue where all message boxes are saved until the parsing is actually complete. So no more "Common name has changed" every five seconds. They all pop up at the very end of the parsing process. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Hi Karlsten, have you heard of IMDbPy? It gives you direct access of IMDb's database, so you don't have to use HTML-parsing, thus increasing reliability and performance. It accesses IMDB's database with Python scripts. It accepts text files for input and output, so you can make it work in any programming environment. Also, have you considered adding BATCH-processing in your "Cast & Crew 2" plugin? Or some kind of automation so we don't have to process cast, crew, and TV seasons separately? It's nice that your plugin saves us time in entering cast & crew, and this long thread shows this is a highly desirable feature. But if you have hundreds of titles, it is still time-consuming to do it title by title, with cast, crew, TV seasons done separately. I understand that the user has to manually paste the data to DVD Profiler every time, so perhaps batch-processing is impossible. Is there some possibility for your plugin to be able to automatically put the data into DVD Profiler's database without the user having to paste it? |

| Posted: | | | | I shy away from anymore automatisation due to the changing data on IMDb's side. If a actor gets a new common name or a birth year the user has to check his DVDP data, or otherwise he ends up with fragmented data like he does with the DVDP original data.
Will take a look at the python project though. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Actually I think somekind of auto-function could be really handy. Not for parsing profiles but for searching changed (fake) BYs.
I'm getting more and more split entrys again. Thats because BYs are added or pages are merged at the imdb. But I often don't have the time or the patience to parse all profiles with the check for BY if it was previously empty option. (Or whatever it is called in the english version).
I probably would need an option for CCE2 NOT to scan my whole local cache because it became way to big to finish even in a week I guess. So something like: 'check local cache from percent X to percent Y for changed BYs' would be really nice. | | | Last edited: by Corma |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not sure, if I understand you correctly...
Do you want to check (a part of) your actors- / crew-database against IMDb to get changed / new (fake) BYs?
Whenever I download data for a profile, my private version of CCE2 will remind me that I have to edit the cast- / crew-member in DVD Profiler when something has changed - may it be its name and/or BY.
So I don't get any "split entries" - besides the damned "credited as" fields. It's really to much work, editing all related profiles whenever a "common name" changes...
I'm not 100% sure how the original CCE2 handles this, but I can't remember editing any of that code... AFAIR the only thing I edited has been the code about fake BYs. | | | |

| Posted: | | | | Just out of curiosity: You have a private version of CCE2?
Did you download my code and adjust it for your needs?
One of the things that still can happen with CCE2 is when the same actor has two different Ids because no one knew they were the same person.
And then at a later time, these Ids get merged and calling the page with one Id will be forwarded into the other.
But with fake BYs you already have two different BYs in your local DB and I'm not sure I can detect that.
That's why there is the CheckForDuplicates tool where you can at least check manually if two people are actually the same. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Quoting DJ Doena: Quote: Did you download my code and adjust it for your needs? Yes, I changed the creation of fake BYs. They are created based on the roman ID (9000 + ID) whenever there is no BY on IMDb. There are only two cases I stumbled upon, where this automation doesn't work and have to be forced to faked BYs: Vanessa Williams I (1963) / Vanessa Williams V (1963)Ben Collins II (1975) / Ben Collins X (1975)IIRC the original version creates fake BYs based on the Profile ID, which makes it hard to distinguish between real and fake BYs... Although CCE2 sometimes reminds me on them, I can simply ignore them as long as there's no (fake) BY involved. | | | | | | Last edited: by StaNDarD |
