| Posted: | | | | Hi,
as other users requested, please add "Flemish" language in Audio.
A lot of Disney have this audio track.
By the way, why do some languages are appearing in Subtitles and not in Audio Tracks ?
Thanks in advance | | | Registered: October 27, 2000 | | | Last edited: by dvdpro |

I think it can be that in many european countrys, specially in north, usually they don't dubbed, they see allmost of titles in original version with subtitles. Only children films are dubbed, because little children they can read subtitles. In these countries, dubbed titles are few, they can be only %5 of edited titles.
Usually, the editions are to buy in these countries, are european other countries edition that have in subs the language of these countries, subtitle track is very litle to put in one disc, comparating with a one dubbed.
For example, in Noruegan can be buy english edition that has noruegan subs.
Because that, people of these countries request first languages in subtitles, and few of them buy children titles for wacht dubbed, because that few request them.
I think they could be few titles of one countries, but these languages must be in audios, for people who has childrens can know is title is dubbed in the language children know.
Is not the most usually find titles dubbed in these languages, but tehy must be in audio lenguajes becouse all children titles they are all times dubbed.
That could be up the number of languajes must be putting in the next update, more than 17 we now have listed. |

Carlos Bambara, Tibetan and mongolian I have not dubbed films, is not dubbed because is the original languaje of film. I have Moolade (Bambara), Kekexili mointain patrol (Tibetan), and I near to buy two mongolian films: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373861/ and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432325/ Subs are more common, because are more easy to do. But usually is not common put subs in the language of original versión in editions do outside country of origin, where they put sub for earing persons. We must think these program is use for person of all world, are in some countries like tibet, is time cuestion they have more editions and they need indicated subs in her lenguaje. Iso inclusion system will be better that include one to one request languaje, and will be prerared for future request. | | | Last edited: by FHarlock |

One could argue that the ISO list does not differentiate between Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. How about French and French Canadian? Spanish and Mexican Spanish? We're relying on the DVD itself for most of the information already. How about just using the actual language ID associated to the audio track? This would be in line with most of what we currently have in the contribution rules. My suggestion, for those who want more precision, could be as follows: #. [Track language] [Audio type] [Language details] The first 2 fields are identical to what we have right now and we add a 3rd field which covers all possible language variations/localizations. You could therefore have the following: 1. [Portuguese] [Dolby Surround] [Brazilian Portuguese] 2. [English] [Dolby Digital 5.1] [United States English] (etc.) |

| Posted: | | | | Even stepping up to ISO 639-3 doesn't take care of the differentiation between metropolitan French and Québécois French. On the other hand, ISO 639-2 does differentiate between Norwegian (Nynorsk) and Norwegian (Bokmål). Do we drop ancient languages from the list? The Passion of the Christ was in Aramaic and Latin. |

| Posted: | | | | Where do you stop? One could argue that the ISO list does not differentiate between Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. How about French and French Canadian? Spanish and Mexican Spanish? I think it must be a another ISO more evolutioned that is use in informatics programs. When I intalled diferent programs I can choose betwen diferente spanish, and one has diferents (more or less) with other.
My suggestion, for those who want more precision, could be as follows: In the firts page of these post I do one proposition more detailed seeing diferents request and necesities. I think with these the proposition must be these becouse we need more and is now more that we have: #. [Track language][Audio type][Audio languaje] [audio format][Channels][Bitrate]
1. [V.O.][English][DD][5.1][384] 2. [Spanish][Dubbed][DD][2.0][128] 3. [English][Audiodescription][DD][2.0][128] 4. [English][Audiocomentary][DD][1.0][92] 5. [Only music][Soundtrack track][PCM][5.1[384] 6. [Spanish][Dubbed audiocomentary][DD][1.0][92]
Languaje must be posibility for more than one languaje, think in Real women has curves, where VO is english an spanish, or 11'09''01 where we have 11 shorts of diferentes nations in diferents languajes.
And for subtitles: #. [Track language][Sub type][Subo languaje][Sub format]
1. [Film subs][Spanish][Dvd subs] 2. [Earing people][English][Close captions] 3. [Forced subs for dubbed versión][Spanish][Dvd subs] 4. [Audiocomentary subs][Spanish][Dvd subs] 5. [Curiosites subs][Spanish][Dvd subs] 6. [Intertitles][Spanish][Dvd subs]
3 is Musical films with songs no dubbed that need subs for them. 6 is for silent movies, that images has not the text, you can choose in what languajes do you like see the intertitles, subs intertitles up from image when is necesary. With these, you only read need text and don't see intertitles in original languaje, you see like you see in your national cinemas. |

| Posted: | | | | How about this for choices of audio tracks:
[track description] [track language] [audio format] [bitrate]
Track description: Original feature Dubbed feature Commentary Trivia Music only Dialogue only <--- (? I've never seen this, don't know if any DVDs have it) Descriptive video Miscellaneous (describe in special features)
The "miscellaneous" covers odd and one-off soundtracks, like the "Soundtrack for the lonely" or "Whale sounds", which would be better presented in the list of special features.
Track language would come from the ISO language list.
Audio format remains as is.
There can be up to 32 subtitles, so a full menu choice for subs could get cumbersome. Still, I'd like to see:
[subtitle description] [subtitle language]
Subtitle description:
Feature Trivia Picture-in-picture (describe in special features) Miscellaneous (describe in special features) | | | Last edited: by Gridlock Joe |
