How would it do that? We don't link through the job title. I think you have misunderstood what is being discussed.

Pardon me? I don't think you fully realize the complexity of what you're suggesting. Currently we link every crew name to a job, sometimes multiple jobs, and display them in a window whenever the user clicks on a name in the credits, one entry for each movie. That's easy to implement and needs little space because the job titles are fixed and limited. But how would you start to compile and display a list of jobs to the user from an open credits list when not only the name but the job titles for the same person can differ hugely from one movie to the next? Sure, you could make a crude system that just throws up whatever line of text that matches a given name, but that's not exactly going to look neat...

Unless you're suggesting that jobs would still remain fixed in the database but we use some kind of "as credited" system to link the more exotic job titles with the more common ones. I'm getting a headache just thinking about the arguments that would follow...

I can only guess that, to you, it is more important to know how many directors are in your database and rendering a list of the names in that list than it is to have a list of what an individual has done.

My method offers the full ability to render a list of credits by any individual you search on.

The complicated method is the one in place where we are constantly having to force-fit the film credits into the constraints of the DVD Profiler "job titles".

I want Costume Designer at a bare minimum.

I voted for Open Credits though since that gives everyone what they want and we're done.

Yes, I'm sure, but you're not the one who has to write the code to implement this feature.  How would you "search", just to begin with something.

Writing a free text search is not hard. Writing a good free text search on the other hand, is not a trivial task...

By all means we should sacrifice ease of data entry, ease of data approval, functionality and continue all of these interpretation arguments and rules rewrites just so Ken can save a few days writing code.

Just teasing, Hal. Thanks for the reply.

Judging by Profiler's past track record, might we hope for a beta around 2015 then?

In the past, Ken has written code because we requested an item he had not planned on.

I don't see this as an unreasonable request. After-all, it saves him and Gerri time and effort in the long run, in effect, saving him money.

Oh good, this discussion again... what a delightful deja vu. How many times does this have to be suggested, polls completed, and be shot down.

Definitely no open credits - a silly idea for cataloging consistent roles such as most that we have.

Basically, I say leave it as it is. Personally I would get rid of sound completely, but as people like it it, and lot of (shoe-horning) work has been done, it should stay.

I have no real interest in anything else being added, but if people are really keen then why not on a limited basis - things like visual effects, makeup and costume; the key missing reward categories.

I voted for leave it the way it is but add additional catagories. The additional catagories I would like to see are Costume Design and Set Decoration.

Me too.

And I'd like to amend my response to say that a system which gives us Open Crew but which still limits contributable crew to the current roles would still be a big plus for me. I understand why other users and Invelos might not want to take on the additional overhead of Open Crew, but there's a lot that I would like to be able to track in my personal database in a more efficient manner.

Costume Design
Set Decoration
Makeup
Special Effects

maybe something along the lines of the Theme Music thingy...

Agree with Lopek on this one, but I want to add a few roles:
Created by (when the actual credit says created by. Mostly TV series)
Theme music (Also mostly TV series or film series)
Costume Designer

Yes, created by is an important role (In my mind anyway). What would Star Trek have been whit out Gene Roddenberry. All of Star Trek which he was not involved is based on his work.
And I voted for Leave it the way it is but add more categories (list in your post). I have seen some good requests. I would also like to have "Produced by" and "Supervising producer".
