| Posted: | | | | Possessives in a title usually denote authorship when it comes to movies. John Carpenter did not write "Christine" Stephen King did. John Carpenter was the director. It was never promoted as "John Carpenter's Christine. It was always just "Christine." I know that alot of his movies have been promoted since then by using his name because he has a big following, but that is not the title of the movie. Same thing has been done with M. Knight Shayamalan. Are we going to go through all his movies and put the possessives in? | | | Chris |

I don't care how you think it was marketed, the question is what is the registered copyrighted title.

| Posted: | | | | Every now and then I stick my head in these forums and wonder why I bother. Does anyone just watch these happy funtimeing things anymore? A DVD is supposed to be an enjoyable thing, not something to get your knickers in a twist over again, Skip.
The title is "Christine". The copyrighted title makes no difference. They only include his name to distinguish the work as being specifically by him, but at the end of the day, the title is simply "Christine". Perhaps he wasn't fussed about Big Trouble, Terry! And you're right. This will extend to Hitchcock and it's absurd. As BigDaddyHorse has pointed out, his is just "Christine", so this crap will send it out of sync.
And even if was against the all-powerful rules, when the majority want it wrong then wrong it should be. It means the program is being used as the majority wish to use it. However this time they're right... | | | Jon "When Mister Safety Catch Is Not On, Mister Crossbow Is Not Your Friend."

Quote: For what it's worth, my copy of Christine has the UPC of 043396031609, and is just Christine: Special Edition. Looks like I'm missing all the fun with a funky different UPC yet again. I have that one too. It does look like we're missing out on the fun. So...you wanna fight or something? You wanna be the good guy or the bad guy? I'll be the bad guy, they tend to have more fun. Then again, I feel it should probably just be "Christine". Why feed into director's already big enough heads by putting their name in the movie titles? I've always hated that, even when Hitchcock did it. So I guess you have to convince me to stroke these egos, and I don't stroke anything not connected to me or my girlfriend. |

Had Ken intended it to be ONLY the Credit Block then he would NOT have used the word VERIFIABLE because it would be absolutely irrelevant...but he DID use the word verifiable which in and of it self implies verification via outside sources and I repeat I can verify the title. Are you really going to pretend that you are this dumb? Please tell me you are pulling my leg. Yes, Ken used the word 'verifiable'. Unfortunately for you, he didn't end the rule there. He went on to explain how to verify it. You can not just read the first sentence. You have to take the entire paragraph as a whole. I am sorry Skip, but it is you that is wrong. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. YES you are in the weeds and will remaion there with everyone else that simply assumes thinghs and does not document.
Skip Well, if that is the case, we are in good company. Ken is the one who said to use the credit block to verify whether or not the possessive was part of the title. Since we all agree with Ken, and we are in the weeds, he must also be in the weeds. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Skip That is YOUR question. Ken's question is quite different and is answered in the rules. You can pretend it says something it doesn't, but, well, even I can't parse it the way you are. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. That made me This reminds me of that old expression, "If one person tells you that you have a tail, ignore them. If a bunch of people tell you that you have a tail, better turn around and look." Or in other words, if you think you're the only one in a large group that gets it, then you probably don't. |

I only watched 71 horror movies alone so far this month. 71?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I try and watch one DVD a night. I can't imagine 71 in 24 days. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. You aren't cheating and watching things like Masters Of Horror or DTV videos that are like 70 minutes or less are you? If it's under 70 minutes (and after 1970), it's not a movie. I haven't counted mine yet but am probably somwhere between 25-35. I try to watch at least one horror per day. The other day we went to 30 Days of Night, then snuck into Elizabeth after. I won't count that as horror, but could easily make an arguement that it was. Could've watched something good with that time lost. |

| Posted: | | | | Do we really have nothing better to do around here than argue with Skip? The vote isn't even close, but we have a 3 page thread on it already. And I'm sure it will be much bigger by tomorrow. And for what? You're not going to change his mind and I doubt his vote is going to matter. So what's the point here? Just let him have his vote and move along. If you don't want to hear what he has to say then just stop talking to him and he'll stop replying. There's nothing to be gained here. Unless of course people actually like arguing with him. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |
