THIS IS COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE!
I know your writing is not very good but to make a thread that is teetering on gloating about another member of our community's destruction is wrong. I know I am going to get a ton of negative feedback, but I do not care. Was skip crass? ABSOLUTELY! Did he contribute to our community more positively than negatively? ABSOLUTELY! Look through the database sometime and see how many contributions he made. You will find a lot. I opposed the rating system from day one as I knew a person or persons on here would band together and go after people they had personality conflicts with. To those of you congrats, move on to your next target. To Ken please remove the reputation system and get us some moderators. First, I have to say that everything you said depends on your point of view. I know a lot of people who feel Skip's cons, far outweighed his pros. Second, I don't think anyone 'banded together' to go after Skip. I think the users, who were finally given a voice, used it. While I hoped this wouldn't happen, I saw it coming a mile away. You can only be 'crass' for so long, before it comes back to bite you in the arse. Third, I don't think having moderators would have made any difference. If anything, this would have happened sooner...assuming the moderators knew how to moderate. Edit: Please don't get me wrong here. I am not trying to bash Skip. I am simply giving the other side of the coin. While I can see why it could happen, I didn't want it to. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | such a big fuss about nothing. Skip will be back. Whether his leaving was by choice or was forced to leave by the system doesn't really matter (to us anyway - it certainly may to Skip). The reputation system will at worse block someone from posting for 24 to 72 hours Based on experience when Skip leaves on his own he can only stay away from 24 to 72 hours, then he is back. I'm hoping the OP was looking for answers and not gloating. My guess is he was. So to the Skip supporters - don't worry... he'll be back. To those who are happy not to have him posting (albeit temporarily) - don't worry... he'll be back. |

sadly by the looks of it, skip left us Why on earth do you persist in nagging about a users descision to do whatever?!?! Let people run their own course, and use your energy to improve the database instead! This thread is idiotic, to say the least! Whether you like Skip or not - his descision is his own, and not for us to debate! | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Giga Wizard: Quote: I don't find skip post negative, I feel sorry he has left, due to about 160 (negative) entries. He left a last message in a forum that probably not all forum users follow: DVD Profiler: Feature Requests. Skip may not have been appreciated, he was helpfull where he could. And yes I had my confrontations with skip. Giga, This post is your best explanation so far for why you started this thread. You might edit your first post to include this explanation so that people understand where you're coming from. Maybe with that information in the first post, they wouldn't react as negatively. You might also edit the thread title from "Is skip voted out the building or not?" to "What happened to Skip?" A couple of adjustments like that might make clear your intention that you are just curious as to what happened and you actually support Skip and didn't want to see him go. Aside from that, any affect from the reputation system returns to normal over time so if this is indeed why Skip isn't posting right now, he will be given the opportunity to return to posting if he wishes to. I think the suspensions are short-term, perhaps 72 hours or something. But this may not be the case and his departure could be completely voluntary. We have no way to know. Edit: I see Rick said many of these same things while I was composing. | | | ...James

Skip I said that either could be a possibility and we have no way to know which. Now we know. Welcome back. I am not "back". I will be watching and will ONLY post IF I feel I must. My reasons are my own. Only some of which I have given voice to. I have no intention of actively participating here any longer, all of the exact reasons for it have been brewing for a long time . I will NO LONGER be contributing , but I will continue voting.
I simply want to set the record straight, I have not been voted out, nor is my decision in any way directly related to the Rep sysytem.
Peace...out!

Skip Thanks for the explanation. It seems that a lot of people were wondering what happened and now they know directly from you, so that's good. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | Skip was and is so valuable to this forum,, I cannot even begin to conclude where his knowledge on this database is to begin.. He should be Immune to any reputation system.. His dedication and time spent goes undeserving on these boards. It's easy to get a bit frazzled with certain comments and data mistake entries that a lot us make from time to time, when you are putting in as much energy as he is gettign the data right. That is why we are here., to understand and build a better data base than anyone else has in the world. To ask any of us to spend half your your waking day on the keyboards is asking a lot. I was also under the assumption that Skip had built up so many Green arrows to combat the red arrows , that he was always running near full to get that first Star, that I see a lot of you have, but Skip never had a Gold Star. ... That's a pity to me.. Maybe he'll 'skip' buying the next DVD and buy another licence and log in under a different alias and name., and come back as a newbie... ( and please no negative votes for me for posting this.. ) | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | Terry,
I am glad to see someone post very much the same thoughts I was having about this whole situation. I won't suggest I always agreed with Skip or the manner in which he expressed himself but I will say that his positive contributions to this database and these forums far outweighed any negatives he brought.
Nobody is perfect - I'm certainly not - everybody has negatives. My interactions with Skip both public and private were almost always positive. If you treat people with respect you generally get respect in return and I think that applies to Skip as well - it certainly has for me. IMO to the extent Skip seems disagreeable I think it's a matter of style for him -- not a reflection of a deep dislike in most cases -- he's very direct (too much so sometimes) but then again that can be a plus -- i.e. you always know what Skip is thinking -- he doesn't do passive/agressive.
In conclusion I sincerely hope Skip decides to return -- at the very least to contributing -- because the database will absolutely be the worst for it. If he doesn't I wish him well.

| Posted: | | | | bI think it is a great shame that Skip felt he had to leave this forum for his own reasons.
Whilst I do not agree with every thing that he has posted on this site, (and to be honest, this statment applies to ALL users), I do agree with his right to post. And his right to now "not" post.
I too went away from the old site for a few months (maybe even longer than a few, I wasn't counting) and Skip was one of the few people to welcome me back to the site.
This is not something a tyrant would do (in my opinion)
All of the "discussions" on here are valid, and yes, sometimes heated. The reputation system is a "nice" tool, but for me, only to be used for positive matters. I will only ever give Green, and never Red (unless you are spam ad)
So, what is the answer? Give Skip immunity? No.... this is unfair, not just to all the other users, but to Skip himself. Get rid of the rep. system? No, as this is "not" the reason that Skip gives as to why he is not posting contributions. Moderators? Not in this instance... I think moderators can be useful, but.. it is also a huge amount of time to be devoted to a forum. (and there is only so many ways to say, "no, there is NO CD Profiler! version of the software")
So... would I like to see Skip post new contributions? Yes, as his data is useful, as is any correctly posted data (and hey, the rules can be confusing) Will this happen? Right now, I doubt it
Do I agree with his contributions? Mostly (99%+)... but.. then... I am more of a user than a giver.. I only submit when I have to (and if I have the time) and time is the most limiting factor.
Will this site calm down? This I doubt too, there will always be dissagreement, even with this post.
What will I do? I will keep visiting, keep trying to post things to make you smile, or a R.I.P. post to make you sad.... and on occasion I may even say something that makes you stop and think.
Even if that thinking makes you say "Are you NUTS!!"
Ah well
This is a great site, and I hope that in time, it gets greater | | | Signature? We don't need no stinking... hang on, this has been done... blast [oooh now in Widescreen] Ah... well you see.... I thought I'd say something more interesting... but cannot think of anything..... oh well And to those of you who have disabled viewing of these signature files "hello" (or not) Registered: July 27, 2004 |
