And dubbed films are sort of "banned" by the Norwegian audience. While you read the subtitles, you can still hear it and get all the correct intonations that the actors intended. That Die Hard clip loses so much. However it is sometimes funny hearing the original voice after you seen the series or movie on German TV. I like more the Captain Janeway in German as the original voice of Kate Mulgrew. I was actually running the poll for at home DVD's and not the movies at the cinema . But I did enjoy reading your response .. I have been a fan of foreign films (non-Hollywood) for many years, i.e. European & Asian in the main, mostly due to our multicultural broadcasting network SBS (www.sbs.com.au) who broadcast with English sub-titles in yellow text. There are many English language films where I need to turn the sub-titles on by necessity: 1) Any Sylvester Stallone movie - the man just mumbles his lines and I dare anybody to be able to follow his dialogue otherwise. 2) Many old black & white movies when the quality of the audio is suspect and a challenge even to a good quality theatre system. 3) When my now ex-wife was nattering away in my ear whilst I was trying to watch a film. She had an uncanny ability to choose the exact moment duiring a crucial point in the movie to start chatting, particulary after having watched it for 2 hours and it had a complex plot - thanks goodness for the rewind button and index points  Personally, I don't like dubbed movies usually due to poor lip-synching. I much prefer sub-titles. | | Posted: | | | | I almost always watch a movie in it's original language (if needed with subtitles), no matter if it's spoken in a language I don't understand. I always like to learn a few words and non-synced lips destract me more than text on the bottom of the picture. The only exceptions are some animated movies which I like better in Dutch or watch with my youngest child. | | | Martin Zuidervliet
