So, I have been coding and testing, and I might have missed the bottom line on this conversation ... does this mean that we don't need a tool - just Change UPC to non-UPC number? If so, I will move on to other work. I jumped on this cause it seemed cool ... | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! | Posted: | | | | Cool it is, there is no other way to get automated data in this manual profile why not make a poll for it, they love polls. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. With the method I posted earlier you can create non-contributable profiles with made-up numeric UPC/EAN codes, which enables you to have dupes in your Db. Which is all I think most people need or want. That said, Giga seems to prefer having a non-numeric UPC/EAN in his manual profiles, so there may still be a desire for such a tool if there are others who feel the same way as him. Quote: Just to play devil's advocate for a minute... what's to stop someone from using mediadogg's "profile cloning technology" to make many duplicate profiles and using the software for commercial purposes? So what could these "commercial purposes" be?
No video rental store would use a program like DVDProfiler to keep track of its inventory! They would need a unique barcode for each copy of a DVD, manual profiles don't have a barcode (UPC/EAN).
pdf
That is not really true. Things can be done many numbers of ways. I worked as a manager of a video store in my town for over 12 years and we never used UPC codes in any way what so every. Every single copy of every single title got it's own unique storage number. I could have easily made DVD Profiler work for our store if there was a quick and easy way to go from UPC/EAN to manual profile. That is what I said, "They would need a unique barcode for each copy of a DVD" This is what you said, "Every single copy of every single title got it's own unique storage number" They mean the same thing! Yes you could just put a sticker on each DVD with a number and do it all by hand, but in this day and age not using a barcode and barcode-reader seems a bit silly. All of that aside, DVDProfiler is a profiler of DVDs, NOT an inventory control/sales/rental program. pdf | | | Paul Francis San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA |

| Posted: | | | | As I have said many times before...I am a very literal person... I read a post by what it says... not what I think it could possibly mean. there is a big difference between a bar code and a simple number. They definitely do NOT mean the same thing!
And whether you think it is a bit silly to not use a bar-code and scanner don't really matter either. we were in business for well over 20 years... and the only reason we closed was because the owner of the business got fatally ill. And believe me... it was very simple to just type in a few simple numbers. As I said... there is more then one way to do something. Just because it is different don't mean there is anything wrong with that way.
And I never said Profiler was for anything more then that... I just said I could of easily made it work. | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

| Posted: | | | | Ok, my head is spinning with all the pros/cons and issues. I'm just an old grunt. Anyway, here is something for those who want to mess with it: BulkEdit V090 (un-released): - Adds "Clone to Manual" to the Collections\Flagged menu. This will pick up from the highest M#### ... found in the database and start creating clones by incrementing from there. - Adds "Clone to DiscID" to the Collections\Flagged menu. This will take the DiscID from DiskIDSideA and use it, along with locality to create a clone. Skipped if no DiscID found, or is ill-formed. Note: - No Cast/Crew - Of course, all the personal info is copied, but duplicate location/slot/collection#, etc ???? - Oh, very important: you can't stop it, so be careful about flagging a billion profiles ... You can of course load up the changed profiles by Tools\BulkEdit "Load Manual Profiles", will bring in any profiles with either DiscID or M##### ... as a profileID, to make it easy to complete the edits per the Wiki. I didn't check - if I don't support the fields you need, I can add them for editing of manual profiles only. Not sure where to discuss issues - here is OK if OP doesn't mind. If still too controversial, we can make it a "Contribution Members Only" tool, instead of general use, since I believe one of the intended uses is to assist in building episode-related box sets. Anyway, please don't shoot me - I just like the challenge of writing cool stuff - I don't care too much about the decision as to whether it gets "released". Edit: Updated to V0.90 to include copy of cover images and thumbnails. Don't really feel up to a poll, but I am leaning towards releasing this. If anybody has "severe" objections, I would appreciate a PM to share your reasons, so I can think about that, or discuss it here - no matter. One thing I would ask - if you do object, could you do me the favor of testing it, so that your perspectives are based on what actually happens instead of speculation. I'm sure there may be issues I didn't think of, or maybe even bugs that would prevent me from releasing it. Thanks in advance. Edit: Released as V091. | Posted: | | | | Started playing around with it. After installing this plugin. Flag the profiles to clone. then from the DVD Profiler menu: CollectionFlagedClone To Manual And all the flaged profiles are cloned sequential in to the next available Manual Profile(s). Great Job: mediadogg | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | Ok, based on your PM feedback, I added copy of the images as well. No option - it just does it. If this clone feature is released I can easily make it an option. Meanwhile, I'm moving on to try and complete the CSV Import before the next 3.5 beta drop - I suspect that's when developers miight get the tools to start taking advantage of the new features in 3.5. | | | Thanks for your support.
