| Posted: | | | | This topic piqued my interest, so I also did a bit of research.
At least for my version of PowerDVD:
- To get bookmarks, you have to disable HW acceleration - Bookmarks and playlists are saved in \Documents and Settings\{Owner}\My Documents\Cyberlink|{PowerDVD}\
- You can set PowerDVD to remember where it last stopped playing, for each DVD title - That file is stored in \Documents and Settings\{Owner}\Application Data\Cyberlink\{PowerDVD\DVDTitles.bmk
It might be possible to play games with saving and restoring the DVDTitles.bmk file - one that has the exact starting points you want for all your DVDs, as part of a scrript that starts PowerDVD.
Now if we just had a DVDTitles.bmk editor. Hmmm ... | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

Hmmm odd. I can save bookmarks fine with HW enabled. I just tried it. Although I personally never use the bookmark feature, well, other than the automatic bookwark it saves. |

Chalk it up to bad info from another forum. I didn't check it. When I read it, I just turned it off and then used the bookmarks. Sorry about that. Should have known that "another" forum wouldn't be as accurate as here! | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. |

Just checked, you can save a bookmark while watching a film (at the start of the film for example) then the next time you start playing that movie you have the option to jump straight to that bookmark. I looked into it a while back, I wanted to know if you could store the book marks independently of the film so you could launch all you films from a central menu but I dont think this is possible. Might start doing this with my tv series... |

| Posted: | | | | Hi All,
I have skim read this thread, as there where way too many opinions to wade though it full detail.
I would like to be able to store where my DVD is located. I know there is a location field but it seems to be limited to 30 characters. This does not give enough room for me it clearly identify where the disk is. Is it possible to have this field extended (or some similar field added) that would support more, maybe say 512 characters?
I know I could use the notes field, but this is not really a note, it is the DVD's location.
thanks Darro |

thanks Darro If you find a good spot, let me know. My plugin, LoadDVD uses the Notes fileld. I have a request in for an extension of the Location field, but there has been no response from Ken on it. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. I take it as a plug in producer you would have more influence than me as an average punter. On the face of it, it would seem to be a reasonably simple request. So I guess I'll have to wait and hope. |

| Posted: | | | | Can I ask - why do you need so much space in the location field? I can't think of a situation where you'd need so much detail to locate a disc. I suppose you could gain a few extra characters by spreading out into the slot field, if you don't already. |

| Posted: | | | | I just wanted to thank the original poster of this topic for asking for a very legitimate feature. Many of us that purchased our DVDs prefer to store them on hard drives and protect our original media. The debate that ensued is rather comical but the bottom line is that people will use their media however they want. It is not the responsibility of third party DVD cataloging companies to try and "legitimize" or "sponsor" this behavior but it IS their responsiobility to try and include features that their users WANT. There have been many requests for this feature (simple media type = Hard Drive ) and it has not been implemented to date. I am a paying customer of DVD Profiler (which I love- for the most part) and they have really dropped the ball on this one. That is too bad. It is also too bad when the Skips of the world editorialize on areas that they obviously have very little knowledge about. Anyway, lets hope that a company progressive enough to create a computerized movie catalog program can understand that their users are capable of choosing their own media type. |

Ironically I have to disagree with you, even though I support the need for the function. Is it the "media type" that you really want, or the ability to manage files? If the latter, then two solutions are available that have in fact been enabled by DVDProfiler: (1) A plugin - a legitimate way to extend features of the product (see LoadDVD), and (2) HTML page (see Layouts Forum). So, while your particular solution has not been honored, there has been lots of work to enable the underlying capability you seek. But perhaps I missed your point ... Edit: As an indicator of "where" the media are stored, there is the Location field and the Tag capability. Both of which I personally use to refine the description of how to get the media, because I can store a DVD, HDDVD or BluRay content on a physical optical disc (on a shelf or in a changer) or magnetic disk drive or on the network, or on a portable device. It gets a bit complicated, and I'm not sure if simply adding "Hard Drive" to media types solves the evolving problem of new media types and ways to access them. | | | Thanks for your support. This is not a "movie catalog program" this is a DVD profiling program. What is so hard to understand about that? From the product description : DVD Profiler can manage any size collection. Extensive data collection, filtering and reporting features specific to DVD, and unique to DVD Profiler. This is not Movie profiler, VHS profiler, CD profiler, 8MM profiler or hard disc profiler |

| Posted: | | | | You're right, this is a DVD profiling program, but if Ken wants continued sales, this may be a feature he'll have to seriously start considering as downloaded movies become more and more popular. I mean, if this was called CD Profiler and he refused to implement the ability to log MP3 files - how popular do you think it would be as a piece of software. Ken's already shown he's willing to move with the times by including HD discs. This request is only asking that he move a bit further, that's all. |

| Posted: | | | | Maybe I'm wrong, But an HD-DVD is not different than an ordinary DVD. They need obviously a different reader and they don't have the same stockage capacity, but it can be arguing that they are 2 format of Digital Video Disc. Maybe that's why Ken had taken the decision that they are a part of the profiling format in the software. |
