BulkEdit > Bulk Load Personal Data , is intended to do just that.

Remember when updating Location and Slot, you need to supply a disc#, otherwise I probably default to disc#1 and will just continue to overwrite that one.

It is a relatively recent feature, so you should be able to find the instructions a few pages back in the forum. If not, let me know. It is a CSV style import process.

Edit: I found the instructions here and here.

Whaaaat? You mean I actually beat Mithi to the punch this time?

One question, though: Is it possible to modify just some profile fields (say "Location" and "Notes") by importing a csv file, and leave all other fields unaffected, so as to merge data?
Somehow I couldn't manage that; when importing my csv file I deleted all other information.

Did you use Tools -> BulkEdit -> Bulk Load Personal Data?
Never used that so I'm stabbing around in the dark:
Maybe you need to export your current personal data to csv, join them with your Notes and Location and re-import those?

If that fails you need to go medieval on the data and manipulate the XML-Export and re-import that. PM me I am always willing to help.
Especially if it is a fellow Perry Rhodan fan!

Hi Mithi and mediadogg,
thanks to both of you (and any Perry Rhodan fans). That helped indeed!
Unfortunately my collection contains some entries without any discs. For those, I get an error. That is reasonable for Location, but not for Notes, because Notes are not linked to discs.
Maybe I have to do some more tinkering.

I suggest doing two batches: one with and without discs. If you do not include the disc column and still get the error, let me know.

Meanwhile, as I have BE open for updates at the moment, I will put that fix on the list.

I get the error even if I only include ProfileID and Notes.

First things first: Make a backup!

Unfortunately my collection contains some entries without any discs.

Possible workaround:

  • Get DatabaseQuery, that plug-in can search for missing "Disc Descriptions" (if a profile hasn't any discs, it has no Disc Descriptions) and save that as a "Flag Set"

  • Now load that set in Profiler ( Collection -> Flags -> Load Set ) and sort "Flagged first"

  • Open the Personalize window for the first profile ( Ctrl & P ) and press "Add Disc"

  • DVD -> Copy

  • move to the next profile and DVD -> Paste and uncheck everything but "Disc Information" and edit the profile to see if it looks right.

  • If yes: Collection -> Flagged -> Paste and do it again to all flagged profiles

    Good one Mithi.

Another way, once you have a flag set:

(BulkEdit) Collection > Flagged > Add Disc

Later, Invelos refresh will delete the extraneous discs, OR

(BulkEdit) Collection > Flagged > Delete All Discs

Meanwhile, if I get the fix done before you finish, I will send you a pre-release link privately.

Meanwhile I counted and found that I have 192 such cases. For boxes it's quite correct not to conatain discs directly, in the other cases it's an error.
Mediadogg, since you seem to be working on it I'd rather wait before I do any more mass manipulations on my collection.

    BulkEdit V2.78 Available

    - Adjustments for remote client revised to allow limited updates
    - Remote client updates delayed by 2 sec for server stability
    - Fixed error on Personal Data Import to discless profile
    - Added ignore case to Complex Copy Find / Replace
    - Added Color Format, Gift Info, Dimensions, My Links to Clone Selection panel

The following notice has been added to the initial post in this thread:
    ===================================================================================
Notice: Considerations for using BulkEdit on DVDP Client of a remote database

Generally, it is NOT recommended to make bulk changes from a remote database client. However, just as the main program, BulkEdit will adjust its capabilities in this mode in order to minimize problems.

    - A small delay has been added between bulk operations that save to the database
    - Some functions may not be available, or might work differently. For example, Bulk Cloning operations, such as "Clone To Manual," will not reflect changes in the client collection display. You must manually execute "Refresh Collection F5" in order to see the changes on the client. However, the changes will be reflected immediately on the server screen.

For Bulk Operations, especially in spreadsheet mode, it is recommended to run BulkEdit either on the server, or on the client with a local copy of the database, which can then be backed up and restored to the server for future use. That being said, BulkEdit has been adjusted to work correctly for limited updates. It will be slower and subject to errors in the case of a poor network connection.

I have been looking for a way to bulk edit the "watched by" field. I have a couple users, and want to flip that bit in bulk for a given user. Is this something dooable? When you have 1000+ movies, it's tedious to do one at a time. Right click on each movie one at a time, select "watched by" then uncheck the user who hasn't seen it, then hit ok.

As of now BulkEdit can't manipulate "Watched by"

But under "Edit User" you can go to "History" and delete single items or clear the whole history for one user, maybe that could help?

Yeah, sorry about that. It has been on the list for years, but this is one of the few (maybe only) requests for it. "Watched By" is one of three Events that can be stored in the database. The other two are Loan and Return. Each even t is associated with a User, Date-Time and optional Note. Therein lies the complexity. It not simply a check mark that must be manipulated. Seems like a good candidate for a custom tool - I doubt that I will ever have time to add it to BulkEdit, even if I could figure out a good interface.

There may be some things in it that are no longer needed, as DVDP has added a lot of new features in the last few years. I will look into it someday. If you don't use BulkEdit often, then you can just disable it in Tools>View Plugins. It will be there when you need it.

That being said, BulkEdit has the ability to do many things in minutes that would take hours manually, and some things that would be hard to accomplish at all. An extra 20 seconds every now and then might be worth it.

But of course, I would like to improve on that in the future, so thanks for bringing it up.
