Would you offer your justification for your proposal using Pan's Labrynth? Specifically who goes and who stays please. I would also like to see your list for Planet of the Apes. I don't have either of those titles, so no I can't. Not without screenshots | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

Quote: ...I would also like to have "Produced by" and "Supervising producer". Skip beat me to it but those are already in place. Interesting that you missed it with all the shoehorning going on in the producer field. "Produced by" is Producer, but I'm not aware of any decision or practice of including "Supervising Producer" in DVD Profiler. I thought the producer fields were among the least shoehorned of all of the credit fields. It's either Producer or Executive Producer or nothing, as far as I've ever known. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | Why are you confused, James. I said NOTHING about Supervising Producer, line producer or any other. I simply addressed Produced by.

I don't have either of those titles, so no I can't. Not without screenshots You're just going to have to rent Pan's Labyrinth because I'm not going to make several dozen screen caps so you can attempt to do something I know you can't. I will take another look at POA but I think the same situation occurs with those films as well. | | | Dan |

| Posted: | | | | To me, the current crew credit system is like pushing square pegs thru round holes. And octagonal pegs, and triangular pegs and... Suggesting new hole shapes isn't a solution, because there are an infinite number of peg shapes. So, if we leave my beautiful analogy, creating more categories just means that there will be more interpretations to argue about. NOT a solution, in my opinion. But hey, not a big problem for me personally. I'm only interested in director and actors. But I can see new 30+ page threads of polite discussion ahead... | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | More to the point of Dan is addressing, I am not concerned about Set decoration and is it part of Art or stand on it's own or what have you. I am far more interested in what is Set Decoration, Makeup, Special Effects, et al? I don't know about you, but I have been kind of watching these areas as I edit, and if you think we can create a shoehorn to fit those areas...guess again. They will only magnify the arguments that already exist and I for one am very weary of that. I am not referring to SPECIFICS such as Theme by which would be specific sub to Music.
The idea of keeping crew private flies in the face of the concept of a user-built database, we help each other.
Look at the mess you get into in the world of animation at least contemporary animation, Layout Arists, background artist, character designers and artists and I have only begun.
Admittedly, Open Credits presents challenges and I have dealt with this issue now for three years trying to come up witth a method to solve them. Unlike some users i have watched in this thread, I am not willing to say get rid of X because I don't care, just because I am not interested in X does NOT give me the right to tell you that you can't have an interest in X. Similarly, with open credits, no user will be required to enter anymore than he wishes, but if a user is interested in gaffers, best boys, accountants, then by what right do i have to tell him no, even though I might think he is crazy.
Open credits poses some other potential challenges, one of which is the sheer volume of data for voters and screeners to cope with and sort out. On the plus side the current arguments and animosity would virtually disappear, a BIG plus. I have even considered a cross bred Crew system, which would incorporate the elements of Open credits(As credited) within the existing system, but evn that can be very problematic with some of the Crew Credit systems used by Hollywood.

Skip I'm not confused by what you said. I agree with you. I'm confused that Dan is extending Executive Producer to include Supervising Producer. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | I see your point about make-up. On this title there would be a lot of different make-up artist being put into one role if we were to enter everybody with credited with make-up. The ones I would have liked to be credited is the ones in the opening credits, but I guess it's too hard to define that in the rules.
I still don't want open credits though, as I like the opportunity to get statistics for directors and other roles. That would be lost with open credits
And I still like an option for created by and theme music. Those shouldn't be hard to define. | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

You have to remember that almost every film lists these job titles differently. Some only slightly different but in a few films the titles are not even close to the same as these. | | | Dan |

Not to mention what they're all called in non-Region 1 films! Or in non-English language Region 1 DVDs. Of my ~1900 DVDs, almost all of which are R1 releases, about a third are films in languages other than English. I think that pure open crew would be a nightmare for my collection. pdf | | | Paul Francis San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA |
