I can't see myself amassing a library of downloaded movies, but I would have no problem moving to a rental model similar to Netflix streaming.

My requirements for doing so would be:

- That the A/V quality is comparable to Blu-ray
- That movies are released to this download service at the same time as they are on Blu-ray and DVD
- That the selection is comparable to what I can purchase off of Amazon right now
- That I have unlimited access to the entire movie library for a reasonable monthly fee

Once those three requirements are met, I'd most likely be perfectly happy to pay that monthly fee and then have thousands upon thousands of movies available to me at the click of a button. It's true that I lose out on a few convenience factors, like being able to bring movies with me when travelling, but overall the convenience of having such a large library available to me would outweigh the inconvenience.

I have two. One sits in the garage because it is so loud. Vintage monster Intel server with 14TB spinning and capacity for up to 26TB. To me, this is one reason why you'll never see the end of physical media. I know that when I go somewhere and stay in a hotel/motel, I always bring at least 10 or 12 DVD's with me so I don't get stuck watching crappy TV shows or having to resort to pay-per-view, which is an amazing rip-off.

I don't know how tech savy you are, but you can fit a TON of movies on one DVD if you convert them to .avi format. When I travel, I bring one dvd of .avis. Since I'm watching them on my laptop anyway, the audio/video is not a factor.

You could just keep the files on your computer than burning them to disc if your just ripping them to avi.

.avis are much, much, much smaller.
