| Posted: | | | | First off let me just say that I'm not against having spoiler tags in the forums but I have to agree with both Skip and Cliff on the issues of what exactly constitutes a "spoiler" and when can a certain topic can be discussed without someone crying foul. Are we expected to not discuss plot points or post photos until we are assurred that everyone in the world has seen a certain film or a TV series season's episodes? Season 3 of BSG had been available for quite some time before Cliff posted those photos of the "new Cylons". Well...News Flash...they weren't "new Cylons" to anyone that follows the series or who purchased and viewed the Season 3 set already. For those procrastinators that had not seen it yet...tough noogies. I haven't seen Dark Night yet and have avoided the Dark Night thread because the thread title alerts to spoilers and I thank the OP for doing that. As far as the X-Files thread goes, I think it would have been wise for the OP to include a ***Possible Spoiler Alert*** in his thread title, because I heard that someone kind of revealed the end of the film while it is still in theaters...not very nice . There's really no sense arguing about this and resorting to name calling. The feature has been suggested, a poll shows overwhelming support and it's up to Ken to decide on its merits. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Read the poll. The answer, for me, was no, because "... I enjoy movies more when someone tells me in advance 'the Butler did it'." How can there be confusion? I wouldn't mind a spoiler tag; would love a way to "inviso-text", but love spoilers even more. Can you tell me which film you are planning to watch next - I want to be able to help you by telling you how the film ended. | | | Paul |

Quote: Hmm... yes. Me.
I posted who the five new Cylons were. After they were revealed in season three, after season four started, after season three DVDs were available worldwide. And still I took amazing grief for answering a specific question.
Actually, you took grief because you did not answer a specific question. The thread in question was simply asking how to credit 'Grace Parks'. You, and a couple of others, went off topic and listed all the Cylons by name and...in your case...pictures.
Others should have gotten grief as well but, I suspect, you took the brunt of it because you were so vocal in your opinion that you did nothing wrong.
And again, how could it have been any kind of spoiler, when the information and photos were from season three, season four was airing, and season three was out worldwide on DVD?
Is there no time limit to a spoiler? A year? A decade? A century? Can we never discuss Janet Leigh in the shower in "Psycho"? Rosebud in "...Kane"? The ice flow sequence in "Way Down East"?
When has enough time passed? Only after the DVD was released? It was! Only after the DVD is discounted on Amazon? It was!
Your argument completely validates Skip's point. Don't be surprised, Cliff, this place is run by the thought police and if you don't agree with them... Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Pauls: I expect such things in a forum about MOVIES, I don't care, I am an adult and am perfectly capable of deciding what I want to read with or without censorship of ANY nature, even well-meaning censorship. Spoilers of any kind never have bothered me and never will, nor do I use them to determine what I will watch or buy. I enjoy reading other opinions and seeing their take on things. | Posted: | | | | Leave it to the DVDP community to go on for 6 pages trying to define what a spoiler is Something that seems so simple on other forums becomes a project here. I guess if Ken does implement the feature we'll have to form a committee and create a complicated set of rules to make sure no individual thought can be allowed in figuring out when to use the tag |

| Posted: | | | | @Skip: Okay, but what have spoiler tags got to do with censorship? You can still read the content if you want to be spoilered. And because I also want to read the opinion of others but do not want to be spoiled by important plot points, I would welcome the spoiler tag. Why are you fighting so hard a tag which works great in other forums? Only because you personally do not have any use for it? Like Rick says: It works great in any other forum. Why do we have to make a science out of it here? | | |

| Posted: | | | | It's not a question of fighting hard, Tom. I see potential problems with the concept as long as the thought police are at work. Abuse of the rep system is rampant and this will be just one more thing for them to exercise their abuse without ANY kind of repurcussions for their ill-behaved manner.
None of this will ever change as long as we have users who can't or won't understand and instead of addrressing legitimate points, belittle , dismiss or exercise their ability to try and control speech in the Forums. See the comment of the user just before your, Tom, in my book his comment is totally inappropriate and belittling and shows a COMPLETE lack of understanding of the points which have been raised.

Your argument completely validates Skip's point. And this is why you got so much grief. If we were talking about something like 'The Sixth Sense', the reaction might have been different...though I still wouldn't reveal the ending as that changes the way you watch the film...but we aren't talking about a show, or film, that is decades old. You revealed key plot points of a current TV series. Whether you agree or not, that is considered a spoiler and is bad netiquette. This is all about being considerate of your fellow users. I don't see why that is such a bad thing. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. This is all about being considerate of your fellow users. I don't see why that is such a bad thing. And to be precise what prompted me to start this thread was a spoiler from a movie that wasn't even in the theaters for 12 hours yet. I mean c'mon. People who were planning on seeing it the 1st day may have had something ruined for them. If you (by you I mean those who don't see the need for this feature) can't see the issue here I don't know what to say. |

Skip Enough already with your accusations of abuse. Take it up with Ken. Nobody here has the power to do anything about it. I know of negative votes cast that were overturned by him when he felt they were not justified. If you have some that are not overturned then at some level Invelos feels they are justified. Deal with it like the rest of us do when we get them. I have received both red and green many times. I have given both as well, Never has any of mine (either given or received) been changed. Whats funny is some posts receive both red and green for the same post. Obviously Invelos has decided those posts can be considered both good and bad depending on how you interpret what is said. That's cool. It's their call not mine. My guess is this post will be one of those. I can live with that. If you have an issue with the system perhaps it's not the system that is at fault. The "thought police" as you call them is nothing more than the community as a whole telling everyone else what they think of their posts. Nothing more, nothing less. No conspiracy. But you have been told that by so many you probably don't even hear it anymore. I have to add on more thing then I'll leave this thread as it's gone on way past what it should have... I really find it funny that someone with 9,000 posts continuously talks about being shut down or censored. |

Skip Most forums, about movies, include spoiler tags. This forum is an exception, not the rule. As for it being censorship, please. Spoiler tags aren't about censorship, they are about choice. It is about letting people decide what they do and don't want to read. How you can equate that to censorship is beyond me. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | You most certainly do have the power to do something about it, rick. You can modify your own disgusting behavior so you are not patronizing and belittling of others and their opinions. You also can stop abusing the rep system with your agenda votes, and so can others. You have not personally attacked by me in any way, your ideas, while questioned, have been treated with fair more resp[ect than the absolute disdain you display for others.

| Posted: | | | | BSG Season 3 premired on October 6, 2006 with the final episode airing on March 25, 2007. I'd hardly call that current. Albeit, the DVD wasn't released until March 18, 2008 but that was 3 months ago. Any "spoilers" had already been revealed, discussed and recussed months ago all over the internet. Just because there happens to be someone on the planet who hasn't seen it yet doesn't make what Cliff did "bad netiquette". Just because the series is still running on television shouldn't preclude someone from discussing past episodes IMO...especially for episodes that were televised over a year ago. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |
