Oh yeah, forgot about that. Maybe I'll try the .NET4 route soon. I have been reluctant for fear that it would be incompatible with a lot of user's environements. I like the idea of giving it a try. I'll PM you with link to a .NET4 standalone as a test.
For the record, all my machines are now Win7 - both x32 and x64, so there is something else going on - we just don't know what ...
Maybe it's not the .Net thing then. Do you actually have the .NET 2 framework listed in your control panel for Win7 x64? As far as I know it's not installable? What .NET versions does your Win7 list as installed?
I seem to only have MS.NET V4 Cleint and Extended explicitly listed under Programs in the Control Panel.
But included in the c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework folder are:

I'm sure that I installed Win7 as an Upgrade over WinXP - maybe that explains something ...
Nope, just checked - my new clean install of Windows Home Server 2011 has all the same folders, indicating versions 2 through 4 of .NET installed, in both the Framework and Framework64 folders.
Now waiting for the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" Panel to come up. I will report back if I see something interesting. You might want to take a look also.
Edit: There is one relevant entry, for MS .NET 3.5.1 and it is checked. How about on your side?
