| Posted: | | | | Wow! This is the first thread I've checked today and I've already run out of greenies! Well done Kinky for a fantastic post. I think that is a commitment that most users will be more than happy to get behind. Quoting m.cellophane: Quote: I would like to see a note or symbol displayed to show that a user has been suspended or banned so that it would be communicated to everyone. I've seen it on other forums. Invelos doesn't want to do that however. As much as I'd like to see this as well, perhaps a compromise can be reached. There is a column marked "Status" on the reputation given page which always seems to automatically default to "OK". Perhaps this can be left blank instead and when a red-arrowed post is seen by a moderator the status can be updated to "Dealt with", we don't need to know what the outcome was, but we will know that, at the very least, a moderator has seen and acknowledged it. |

I hereby commit to be the best I can be, to show restraint in my comments, and to treat my fellow board members with respect, both veterans and newcomers. I commit to contribute to a more friendly, co-operative atmosphere and I should expect the same in return. Let my actions from this point on be judged and compared to the above pledge, and should I fail to uphold the standards I have set for myself, let me be dealt with accordingly.
Although I don't think I've ever been moderated, this is an excellent pledge that all of us should abide by. | | | My Home Theater |

You're on. Although given your previous exceedingly hostile behavior I am skeptical, we shall see.
If you are as good as your word then kudos to you.
One major difference between you and me is that while you reject my offer, I will only too happily accept yours. I mean this with the utmost respect. but think about that. For a little bit now my offer has been out there, and indeed picked up by some. You reject my offer but make a counter and who is the FIRST one to pick up on yours. I think, given the chance, you find that you have grossly misjudged me. I look forward to it. I can already see you have interpreted this as a victory of some sort Skip. Please let me clarify. I offered nothing specifically to you or anybody else in here. I simply made a commitment to adhere to the standards that I set for myself and pledge to be a good citizen. I also allow myself to be governed by that commitment by the powers at be around here (moderators). It requires no approval or blessing from you or anyone else. If you, or anyone else, like my words and wish to adopt them as your own commitment to the forums as Neil and Achim have, then feel free. Or better yet craft your own credo and stand by it. But please offer something of substance other than a virtual handshake. That was the reason I declined your hand... the gesture is pointless without action behind it. If it was to symbolize an attempt for you and I to be civil towards one another going forward.... so be it, I accept. What I would like to see from you is for you to pledge to be respectful across the board to any and all members here at Invelos. That is what I have done. It costs you nothing and will go a long way towards healing the wounds around here. KC | | | "Man who goes through airport turnstile sideways is going to Bangkok."

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Taro: Quote: First post in this thread and I'll keep it on topic:
I value the effort Invelos puts into making clear rules and now has added clear moderation policy. I think both the rules and policy are fair, provided of course this is applied equally and indiscriminately to all members (this, time will tell). But I think it's a good starting point and every forum needs moderation in a correct and fair way in order to create a healthy atmosphere, I believe.
The only thing I would add, but that's a personal opinion, is making it transparent when a member is banned. A lot of other forums do this too and making this publicly known seems to be helpful in steering those members in the right direction again (be it by shame, or because they know others know they didn't take a break but were forced to take one). But again, that's only my personal opinion.
So I'm personally grateful for the steps that have been taken and I'm looking forward to its correct implementation henceforth. same for me | | | -JoN |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Gerri Cole: Quote: - Instigation - is the post in the middle of a back-and-forth, or is one user resorting to namecalling in an otherwise friendly discussion? So in Kathy's thread on her announcement that she's taking a break has effectively turned to dog doo because of one person. Shocking, I know. And, just as shocking, even though I threw a red arrow almost 24 hours ago, the post is still there and zero moderation has happened. I'm sorry, Gerri, but this is absolutely pathetic. Hell, all you have to do is look at that thread without looking through the reported posts and you would know what post turned the thread (hint, it's the negative off topic one that's only purpose is to bait). The irony that Invelos will allow such petty nonsense go on in that particular thread of easily one of the most liked and respected users on this forum should not be lost on anyone. It's moderating at its worst (or finest, since this is Invelos after all). Considering how all eyes are on Invelos to do something, and to let that thread turn to shiitake mushroom like most threads as of late, is pathetic. | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

I have read numerous instigating posts in the last 24 hours. Most of them were reactions to completely innocent posts. I have two questions regarding them: 1) If someone reacts to an unprovoked attack does that then make it a "back and forth" situation that will now be ignored? 2) Why are they allowed to remain? A list of rules is great but if nothing is done when the rules are broken why even bother with them? EDIT: I see my friend above was thinking the same thing I was. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing for either of us to be associated with the other in our ways of thinking (I personally consider it a good thing ) | | | Last edited: by lyonsden5 |

I agree. I only give red arrows for true personal attacks: attacks on the user as a person, either negative statements about who they are or their motives or attributing evil to their actions. For me, it must cross the line from criticizing ideas to attacking the person. I've given 67 red arrows this week; 5 of those posts have since been edited by moderators. I'm clearly having trouble discerning what "warrants" negative feedback. | | | ...James

You have stated a blatant falsehood. Kathy made no such comment, she merely said she was taking a break for awhile.
