| Posted: | | | | I was wondering, is there a general consensus about this?
Sometimes credits include a heading something like "Visual Effects by Bla Bla Bla" and under it a Visual Effects Supervisor is listed. Generally this individual is contributed, sometimes with and sometimes without the company details added in a divider.
However, if the heading is something like "Additional Visual Effects by Bla Bla Bla" do we include or exclude the individual if he's still credited as a Visual Effects Supervisor? It gets more confusing if the company divider isn't included, as then there's no context for the submission of the individual.
The Rules say we include Visual Effects Supervisors but I don't think there's any clear guide on what to do in this sort of case.
Apologies if this has been considered before. Thanks. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

| Posted: | | | | I can't remember who put forth the idea to include Additional Visual Effects, but I DO remember their logic was "it's the VFX Supervisor title we're after, disregard/ignore/nevermind the header title". Then it kinda snowballed from there. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Kluge: Quote: A visual effect supervisor is also a valid credit when the COMPANY is an additional visual effects company. That's exactly the question SpikyCactus is asking. Quoting SpikyCactus: Quote: Apologies if this has been considered before. I'm fairly sure this *has* been discussed before somewhere - the trick is how to find it, and I can't. As far as I can recall, the consensus up to now was what huskersports and Kluge are saying: if someone is given the job title "Additional Visual Effects Supervisor", then he's out, but if he's credited as "Visual Effects Supervisor" under an "Additional Visual Effects by {company name}" header, then he's in. That's the approach I'm seeing in most profiles, anyway. But obviously, there's something to be said for either approach. One of the problems is that groups of "Additional Cast" or "Additional Voices" aren't disqualified either. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Hello everyone. Thanks for your thoughts. That's certainly cleared that up then! I think I'll submit an update to a profile to add a Visual Effects Supervisor from an Additional Special Effects Company and see what happens. (It's "Elektra" 5039036042277 if anyone is interested and wants to look at the actual credits.) Edit: Well, I won't be doing that after all, as it's already there. I must have seen it in the profile and wondered if it was right, rather than seen it in the credits and wondered if it should be in the profile. But I would have sworn I was right the first time.
