I have seen various TV series which do not use the Television genre; it is often bumped out to make room for a third genre. I think we should request folks to always use the Television genre for TV series; and maybe even made-for-TV movies.

Even though I do not consider it a real genre... I do feel this is important information... so I do agree it should always be on there... even more so for TV Movies... as this gives information that is not completely obvious.

I would personally like to see it somehow moved from genres without loosing this information though.

I agree,
perhaps a new field would be useful, say "Original Media" or similar. Then you could select, Cinema, TV, Video etc.

I don't want to lose it either. I am puzzled why those of who like it think TV should be in the #1 slot however...since we all know it is NOT a Genre.

I assume your talking to me, since I just uploaded abunch of them!   I like it first because if make it easier for sorting by Genre, and also that the way I like it.

Something like this is exactly what I was thinking... would be a great addition in my opinion.

In my opinion... even though it is not a true genre... it is where we have it and what we have to work with... and with the genres we have listed... it IS First and foremost Television.

I wasn't referring to anyone in particular, Larry. But you just described personal preference, TV is NOT a Genre should it be in #1 position since its not a Genre, I would say for Online purposes No.

Genre is almost always a personal prefernce, and there is no where else to put it in the DB. They should then be moved to personalized or alphabatized.

I also agree that televison should be put into the #1 slot so that if I am looking for a tv series I can sort them by genre and don't have to open the filters dialog, that I never have open. It is much quicker if you are only looking for a tv show.

I don't know, I just ran a search on TV and got back773<gasp> I would plus or minus 10% to account for some that might not have room for TV, So the search field is not dependent on position.

Television is NOT a genre.  Genre is a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, marked by a distinctive style, form, or content.  Is the subject matter of your TV series about "Television" or is dramadic or comedic in content and form?

The only reason Television was ever allowed to be added as a genre in the first place was so that users could sort their TV series in their collections for report purposes.  It was never meant to be uploaded to the online database as the primary genre.

If you want to make your primary genre "Television" for sorting your TV series in your local database, fine.  But don't upload Television as the Primary genre to the online database.

Let me guess, you used the filter to get that. As I said above I do not use the filter to find them. I have the Genre column turn on in the collection list and the order the dvds by genre and one the ones with Television in the #1 slot sort under television. For example, as you can see in my online collection, with Stargate SG1 - Season 9, currently Sci-Fi is the first genre and not Television, so when I sort by Genre season 9 sort apart from the other seasons as they have tv in the #1 slot.

Very good... now support what you said by the rules... if you can't it is only a matter of opinion... just like the rest.

As I said... it is placed in with genres... And I agree it is not a genre... but as long as that is where it is  located (and I do still feel like it should be moved)... but as long as it is located in with the genres it must be considered one for DVDP purposes. It IS still more Television then anything else. So in my opinion that takes priority. At least until the rules is updated with an exception for it... or it is moved anyway.

Personally i never use TV locally, its not a genre, and i dont need it. But the way i sort the genres is, the big non specific genres first, that describe the theme. E.g. Adult, Anime/Animation, Science Fiction etc (in that order), TV would fit that area. After that comes the actual genre. And that has to be presented the same way its said, e.g. Romantic comedy cant be Comedy, Romance. Because i'm kind of anal about the genre field, its probably the most locked field in my local collection

That is a personal preference and as you will hear me say many times, personal preference has NO placce in the Online Db, that is what your local is for.

How about this make it kind of the reverse of Studios. Lock Television into the #3 slot and work from there
