| Posted: | | | | I'm spending a lot of time this morning on the net here trying to figure out which of the four current new Dvds of this title on the market , to replace my 1997 version of The Searchers. I have never been happy with the older ( anamorphic Vistavision) print of my WB's copy (085391465126) and I see now that along with a new print available on two separate titles ( one 2 disc and one single disc - 012569820029 / 085391158653 ) there is now also an HD and a Blu ray disc..( 012569809420 / 085391115328) . I will hopefully be buying an HD disc player next year and maybe this title will determine which disc to go with. Can anyone fill me in on their experience or review's of the visual quality of these 4 releases I currently don't own. Thanks | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Have a look at DVDBeaver's Comparison. The Blu-ray should be identical to the HD DVD. Obviously, the image resolution of the HD DVD is superior. However, the color reproduction is quite different from the old DVD print. There has been a lot of debate over this issue, and you should probably hang on to your old DVD copy until there is a "definitive" version, if ever. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | The 2-disc edition looks pretty good on my screen. I saw some captures from the Blu-ray and HD-dvd versions and the colors are way too saturated. They almost look like cartoons. |

| Posted: | | | | I have the original edition and the 50th Anniversary Edition in PAL format. I haven't bought into HD yet (waiting to see the outcome of the format war).
I prefer the PAL format and colours to the NTSC equivalents. The screenshots at DVDBeaver of the HD version suggest a very saturated colour palette to me (way too red). | | | Last edited: by Telecine |

| Posted: | | | | I have the HD DVD version and I think the picture is stunningly beautiful. Do note that DVD Beaver's images are not screen captures but rather screen photographs. Here's a review thread by restoration expert Robert Harris at Home Theater Forum. The Searchers is available for rent from Netflix in both HD DVD and Blu-ray. You might want to check it out that way first. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | The high def versions are from the exact same masters as the special editions, so the colors are the same. If you see any differences color wise, it must be because the display is configured differently. You can discuss whether the colors are off on the new master. I have confidence in that the restoration have been done as carefully as possible, restoring it correctly. If you know that you'll go high def soon, I'd definitely wait to pick it up. It's worth the wait and absolutely beautiful to watch in HD! | | | DVD Profiler på Dansk |
