What dvds are you most looking forward to purchasing? Maybe they are "We Own the Night" or "Into the Wild" or "Gone Baby Gone" on Feb. 12th. Maybe it's "Rendition", "Michael Clayton", or "American Gangster" on Feb. 19th. Please provide insight or recommendations based off of what you have scene or what you have heard. Blu Ray, HD, or Standard -- what is your recommendation and why.

I will start by saying that I cannot wait for "No Country For Old Men" on 3/11/08 or "Ice Storm (criterion collection) on 3/18/08. Two great movies; I cannot wait. What casts and what acting; not to mention direction by the Coen Bros. and Ang Lee. You can trust me on these two!!!!

The only title that I can say that they are a no-choice (I have to buy them) at this time are :

From Dark Sky Films (4 movies written or directed by Arthur Marks) : The Centerfold Girls, A Woman for All Men, The Roommates and Bonnie's Kids (great one) . They will be release somewhere in 2008, but no precise date yet.

But I know myself well and I know that I'll buy a lot of 60's and 70's movies this year

Day Break, a TV show that got cancelled half-way through its first season, despite being an amazing piece of TV.

It's coming to DVD in March.

The Last Emperor is coming to the Criterion Collection on Feb 1st. This was released before with a really bad transfer, so I'm hoping this Best Picture winner gets a decent release this time around.

I'm also looking forward to:

Criterion's Eclipse Series 8: Lubitsch Musicals (The Love Parade / The Smiling Lieutenant / One Hour with You / Monte Carlo) on Feb 12th (3 pre-code Best Picture nominees)

The Joan Crawford Collection, Vol. 2 (A Woman's Face / Flamingo Road / Sadie McKee / Strange Cargo / Torch Song) on Feb 12th

3 more Fox Film Noir (Black Widow, Daisy Kenyon, Dangerous Crossing) on Mar 11th

Warner's Bette Davis Collection: Vol. 3 (The Old Maid / All This, And Heaven Too / The Great Lie / In This Our Life / Watch on the Rhine / Deception) on Apr 1

Fox's Bette Davis Centenary Celebration Collection (All About Eve / Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte / The Virgin Queen / Phone Call from a Stranger / The Nanny) on Apr 8 (slight grumble about double dips on All About Eve and Hush...Hush )

Classic Musicals from the Dream Factory, Vol. 3 (Hit the Deck / Deep in My Heart / Kismet / Nancy Goes to Rio /Two Weeks with Love / Broadway Melody of 1936 / Broadway Melody of 1938 / Born to Dance / Lady Be Good) on Apr 8.

If your DVD player can take the region 2 disc the price is not that bad on Amazon Marketplace (26.64$ new)

Zone 2

A little bit more expensive for the region 1 disc (70.99$ new)

Zone 1

There's been a(n obscurely titled) discussion going on here that's listed multiple releases, including some already out.

My most anticipated DVD for the last 10 years was Blade Runner... now that I have it (in HD no less) there is nothing left to look forward to...kind of sad really...

What you aren't a Star Wars Fan??  I said in an earlier post....        (that went unnoticed BTW ) ..,
Can you imagine for a moment the rush to BluRay or HDD , if this 6 volume set was released in HiDef ?
Even if a single title bi-yearly for the next three years would put a whole lot of HI DEF players as well as many many more  Wide screen 1080p TV's into peoples homes..

Come on, George, you're not getting any younger.. You need this extra money now for your retirement..
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

One thing I must admit is that although I have Episodes 3-6 in Widescreen, I was gifted Episodes 1 & 2 in Pan&Scan.   Having just recently purchased a BluRay player to replace my broken DVD player I would probably purchase a 6 Disc StarWars boxed set in HiDef if it were available.  It would look so choice on my 42" Plasma.

That might be one (well, ok to be honest it's 6 discs) of the only things that I re-purchase in HiDef.  Maybe.

I've been waiting patiently (OK, not that patiently) for Network to move the Arthur of the Britons (1970s UK TV series) from it's "we have the rights" pile to actually doing something with it... and at last it's comin out on 31st March and I'm a very happy chappy

This is great news.

Just so you all know, anything with Adam Baldwin in it is instantly awesome.
