Not sure if this is the right board for this, if not maybe a mod can move it (just let me know where intro/welcome posts should be)

I've been a DVDSpot.com user for a few years, so long I'm not sure exactly but I think it was during the summer of 2005 when I signed up there. Before the Spot I had been tracking my collection half-heartedly at DVDAF, but I don't like a lot of functions and looks of AF, so for a while I didnt update there because updates took forever to get done. On AF I once submitted a cover image for a disc and I had to submit it 2 or 3 times in a 5 month period before it got added. Once I found DVDSpot I loved it and eventually got all my collection uploaded there (with only very few exceptions).

I looked at profiler a few years back and to be honest I didn't like the look and was turned off by the idea of a one-time upgrade at the time because I was more focused on having a completely online collection tracker due to concerns about PC memory space. But PCs and laptop now-a-days have tons more memory, and heck now thumb drives have more memory than a laptop in some cases.

With DVDSpot being shut down, I'm making sure my bases are covered and in the process of updating my AF listings. I've signed up here since my recent (and previous research) research keeps telling me this is the place to be. So here I am.

I am still figuring out many of Profilers functions, and amd a little concerned that maybe I should have waited until the psp version is more complete.

Online I go by klandersen, captkirk42 and occasionally Hey you.
thanks for reading,
~Kirk

klandersen,

Let me be the first to welcome you to our little asylum, take a look around and enjoy the show. I have been with DVDP since 2.xx and have not found anything better. It is worth more than rhe $30.00 price of entry. Again welcome to DVD Profiler.

Hey You:

Welcome to the nuthouse. Rory said it all correctly. It is not a one time upgrade fee, it's a one time fee PERIOD. There is a new Subscription service preparing to come online soon, that will be offer more, but just exactly what more means we don't know yet. But the $30 is a one time buy to the Program and the Online as everything, plus all future program upgrades. I spent $25 years ago and not another nickel since, except for some christmas presents.

BTW, I answer to anything...but if you call me late for dinner.....

I've also been a member since 2.xx and it was easily the best $30 I ever spent. There's no other program or service on the internet that can catalog DVD's as well as this one does.

That's confirmed. I tried many other programmes (freeware, payware/evaluation) and came to the conclusion that DVD Profiler is the best choice! Good value for the money!

Welcome klandersen,
As I already mentioned in a fellow DVDSpot refugee's thread:

You should know that one of our users, mediadogg is working on a tool for you guys from DVD Spot that will allow you to import your DVD Spot exported collection list right into DVD Profiler, to avoid having to do all that work manually.

I don't know what the current status of that project is, but you can read a little more about it in the "DVDSpot shutting down" thread, pages 2 and 3:

Thanks for the replies guys.

Is this php version I've been reading about something that is in ADDTION to the regular profiler, or is it a BETA version of a proposed update?

Skip,

You're not as scary as I was lead to believe. If you can't trust Walt Disney...
I love the link to "I'm Not Blockbuster" my feelings exactly about lending stuff out, I have only done it with family and very very close friends who are also true collectors. In the past many years ago I had been burned by lending out other things, once a comic I lent out was returned with damage from being rolled up and stuck in a back pocket UGH. Once or twice during my childhood I lent out a book or two never to see them again or the kid who borrowed it.

It's an unofficial addition to regular profiler. Meaning it's user created and supported and doesn't have anything to do with the Invelos company itself, although both projects displays your collection as listed in Profiler.

There's two separate projects going, both user driven.

They are:
phpDVDProfiler

or

phpMyProfiler

And here's examples of what they can do:

phpDVDProfiler: http://www.dvdalistic.com/phpdvdprofiler/

phpMyProfiler: http://demo.phpmyprofiler.de/

I don't use either, but it's my understanding they can both be customized quite heavily to suit your own preferences. Have a look at the first two links above for more info on either.

The official improvement to the online display of your collection is called DVD Profiler Online Plus, and it's due out with the next version of the standalone program - which is currently in beta. We don't know much about it at this point, so it's hard to say what it will offer.

Yup!

I convinced at least a couple of people today over on other forums to join Profiler, so my good deed for the day is done.

Came from DVDSpot as well.
Question..when viewing my collection online is this the only address? > http://www.invelos.com/DVDCollection.aspx/ctimk84
Or is there an alternative shorter address you can use to share with friends.

I've spent several minutes on DVD Profiler trying to get my online address and couldn't find anything so I came here and got it.

Ah Ha!
To paraphrase an old 60s sone "I can see clearer now the registration key is on." the blurry images sort of concerned me but I just figured it was because they were enlarged from very small low rez images.
Let the FUN begin.

That's the right URL, but you can register for a shorter address over at tinyurl.com. It's free, and it never expires.

Well I now have almost all my owned DVDs here on DVD Proffiler. Only 5 of my titles weren't found. That is par for the course. I can recall with 99.9% memory recall that I had to add 3 of them (maybe 4) into DVDSpots database. I think I had to add the cover images for the 1 or 2 that were already in that database.

It's possible that those titles already exist in a different region or simply with a difference UPC/EAN. So before you go through all the work of adding them fresh into the dB, you might want to have a look at how to clone an existing profile.

Instructions can be found here:

DVDProfilerWiki.org's entry on cloning profiles

Also please be sure to verify the Cast and Crew data against the film credits. We recently had a case where a user cloned data from a major release for cast and Crew, which later proved to either have some third party data or made up data which did not appear in the film, and once he discovered his error in the cloning he submitted a corrected profile.
