Hi,

i just love black comedies, but actually I don't own much of them. I like Severance, Black Sheep and Stuck (released a few days ago) but I'm sure there are much more.

So which (really dark) black comedy movies do you recommend?

Thanks a lot!

Lord of War is the best dark comedy I've seen in quite some time, probably the best since Fight Club and even funnier.
In Bruges was up there too.

First off to answer the question at the top of the thread.
My two favorite's are 'The Magic Christian", and "The Ruling Class".

Of course "The Ruling Class" had the best blurb of any film I know of, and excuse me for mangling it here my DVD  is on the other side of the house & I am just lazy. The blurb in the ad & the the poster read, 'When did you first believed you were G-d?  When I was praying, and found I was talking to myself."

I quick story about Black Comedy. This is not one of those heard from a friend as I was there.
Years ago there was a movie theater in Dallas name Northpark I & II. With all the publicity surrounding it we were showing Monty Python's Life of Brian". Thirty minutes into the film a rather irate African American woman came out form the theater demanding to see the manager.
She said she read all about the controversy surrounding the film, and that is was very good Black Comedy.

Well she was very upset that she did not see any Black's in the film!

Of course this was in the 70-80's period after the Blackexploitation rage, and before the emergence of such Director's as Spike Lee and others.

Dallas than was still a place for racism, and accusations of such things when there were misunderstandings.
(And if you want to hear of the near riot over the Premier of "The Wiz" ask me in another place.

One of my favorite black comedy's  that isn't readily available is- The Fortune .,1975-  starring Warren Beatty  and  Jack Nicholson .
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

Good to see Death To Smoochy and In China They Eat Dogs listed. I'd recommend both.

Since some movies listed I would consider "dark" rather than "black", here are some more that fit in (hopefully unlisted):

An American Werewolf in London: Twenty-First Anniversary Special Edition

Regions: 2, 4

Released: 6/02/2002

Anamorphic 1.85:1

Anamorphic 1.85:1

Series 7

Region 4

Released: 13/03/2002

Anamorphic 1.78:1

Region 4

Released: 13/11/2001

Anamorphic 1.85:1

Cannibal! The Musical

American Beauty

Regions: 2, 4

Save the Green Planet is easily the darkest of the lot. I think the main reason Series 7 came up as comedy is that it is a parody.

I didn't enjoy Old Men In New Cars nearly as much. I thought Blinking Lights and The Green Butchers were better than it, but still not as much fun as In China They Eat Dogs.
