Just a quick post to say farewell and thanks for the software and assistance from these forums.
For a while I have been maintaining two systems to give me the interface I wanted.

an online db
and a media centre interface...

The two systems which fitted the spec best IMO were DVDProfile and MyMovies. Neither perfect for my requirements but both with good elements.

DVD Profiler for it's online DB

MyMovies for it's Media Center Interface via an extender - which is how I use my data.

DVDProfiler for the DVDProfile Mobile

But things change ....
MyMovies now has a workable online db - not as 'accurate' as DVD Profiler - but improving and certainly not as anal in contribution reaction (note: no mention of any rules just a reference to constant bickering in contribution forum which has always been my prime reason not to contribute). For my use MYMovies is certainly now more complete. I do contribute there as there is certainly a more tolerant attitude (nothing like a PM to resolve things without things becoming a slanging match  )

My Windows Mobile device has finally died and has been replaced with a Blackberry - support for which will be subject to the usual DVD Profiler timescales.

DVD profiler is not developing - not in the directions which interest me.

MyMovies promised a new interface for Vista Media Center but has not delivered. Along comes however an open source app Media Browser that uses the MyMovies data and provides for me the ultimate flexibility of interface.
Solution.....
Time is too precious to concentrate on all of these elements - I want to be able to watch my DVD's from the interface I have choosen so something has to go and DVDProfiler now offers no advantages in fact it is a pain having to exclude the C*** from the forums to find anything useful.

I know I have not contributed many profiles - for reasons see above.... I have, howeve, been to my associates in my personal, working and forum persona an advocate of a good piece of software. (It still is) however it is not moving in the direction I need and to be honest the forums usually degenerate to personel insults to the extent that reading them is painful...

I will visit from time to time....... just to see if anything changes but I very much doubt it ...

Thanks to all who have been helpful over the last few years particularly the plugin developers - who without exception actually bring something to the program and of course to the many contributors to the Db. Thanks for your input... I (and many users did/do value it I am sure)

Sad to see you leave.
Maybe in times to come this program and it's online features will be helpful to you again.

Have a nice time until then
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Sorry to see you leave, Tim, and I regret you've been put off to contribute by the quarrels in these forums. (Maybe you've noticed Ken has recently introduced Forum Moderators to reduce the bickering.)

I hope Media Browser/My Movies will give you what you need.

Please do come back to visit us!

Take care,
DJ

I often said that contribution system, as it is used , would make people fly from contributing. Seems it also makes them fly from the program. This is very sad, and each user who plays teacher and takes the occasion of any tiny problem to vote no on contributions should try to consider the interest of the program, which is the interest of everyone among us.

I read this thread about five time before I posted as I did not want anyone to feel as if I was being mean or rude.  So here it goes.  Contributions like other things in life MUST have rules.  If they didn't it would be a free for all and our databases would be so full of junk data we would all be leaving Profiler for something else.  I hate to see anyone leave Profiler, because it is the BEST software and database available.  As for not contributing.  I am sorry but you do not sit back and watch the database grow in a direct you disagree with and then whine when it ends up taking you somewhere you didn't want to go.  That is like being given a free meal and then complaining because it wasn't steak.  I am tired of listening to people whine about, the program, the system, the forum and the creaters and contributors.  If you do not like where Profiler is going, leave, or better yet do something constructive and make a better program, if you can!

The OP didn't seem like whining to me at all. In fact I thought it was pretty well-balanced. Your post on the other hand imo wasn't.  The statement "If you don't like it, leave, or make a better program" doesn't seem particularly useful to me. 1: He is leaving and 2: you don't have to be a programmer to have a preference in software nor should you have to be.

His post mentioned one of the reasons for not contributing: negativity in the forum. I could say: Thanks for proving him right. But of course then I'd be proving his point as well, so I'll just say: Dear Lord of Sith, I don't completely agree with you.

Cheers,
Steve

DVD Profiler was just as relaxed with contribution rules as MyMovies is now. It changed for a reason, and so will MyMovies have to do it the popularity picks up. It's simply easier to be relaxed with fewer users.

For Media Center integration (whichI agree is abselutely necessary, what is the point of having the best data available if the data is stuck in the wrong program) I use Open Media Library. Currently I am on the .3 release, but the work on the new interface they have (making it look more native to MCE) and a move to SQL server for data storage looks promising - but even without that it's workable.

Using my InstantExport plugin to DVD Profiler makes it possible to automate the update of Open Media Library.

Lars

Now that you mention it, I haven't. I also have at least 3-5 titles with new contributions up that he hasn't voted on, but has voted on in the past.
Clicking his name showed he was here this morning, but hasn't posted since 3/11, and there's nothing but "removed" on those last 3 posts, all from a moderator. Since I have no idea what was said then removed, I can only guess it's a silent protest.

Hope you come back sometime soon Max, while you could always find something wrong in my contribuitions, you also helped make me that much better at them for it. At least come back and vote, in case I f*** somethin up.
