| Posted: | | | | I'd like to see a checkbox added for when an actor or other person appears as him or herself, as opposed to playing a part. This would be especially useful for documentaries where the "role" given is generally the person's position of expertise or relationship to the subject, rather than a character played. |

| Posted: | | | | I personally wouldn't want this. We have to credit them as they're credited on screen which this wouldn't allow us to do. Although most often they'll be credited as either "Himself" or "Herself", I've also seen them credited as "Nicole Kidman....Nicole Kidman" for example. Even if it was just on a Him/Herself basis you'd need to have the program know the gender of the person.
Sorry, in this case I'd rather leave the software as is. |

Sorry, in this case I'd rather leave the software as is. Why would a checkbox dissalow crediting as they appear onscreen? As for Him/Her, that's why I suggested "Self." I don't think I've ever seen someone credited in a documentary as "Himself." Many folks, however, seem to profile cameos that way. Thanks for your opinion. (And to A2DVD.) |

I'll take those together as they're related. If they're credited on screen as Himself & the tick box only allows for Self, we're not copying the role exactly. Also as I said in my previous post, I have seen a few times where their character name is listed as their actual name. That also wouldn't be possible with a tick box. I know you specifically mentioned Documentaries but we would have to apply the rule across the board to avoid complicating matters. While "Himself" might not be common in Documentary credits, it is for TV/Film. |

I didn't propose the checkbox as a substitute for an onscreen credit, but a supplement, like the "Voice" checkbox. The credit would still have to be entered as it appears onscreen, as in the case of an actor credited for "Additional Voice," we also use the "Voice" checkbox. |

Skip Isn't it only redundant if you can actually read the language of the credits? | | | Regards Lars |

| Posted: | | | | I've encountered this issue quite often while profiling documentaries (and concert dvds too, by the way). So yes, I would support the OP's suggestion, because it would enable us to both retain the "as credited" data whilst still making clear where there is acting involved (playing of a role) and where not. |

| Posted: | | | | This idea didn't gain much traction 4 years ago, but it came up in a discussion of Documentary credits here, so I thought I'd give it a bump if anyone wants to discuss it further. |

| Posted: | | | | I support the idea of the check box. But it may be difficult to implement. I think it's really only helpful for documentaries. If an actor or real life person appears in a movie or show and is credited as Himself or Herself, it seems somewhat redundant (though I guess the same could be said of puppeteers and some voice roles). It may be more helpful to make a ruling on documentary credits. | | | My DVD/Blu-ray Collection My Letterboxd Page |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for your comments. A ruling would be welcome--but part of me fears it will go towards inventing roles where roles are already provided (arguably). |
