I'm unaware of any listing of DVDs that Netflix does NOT have, so I try to keep track of this in my own collection with tags.

This is of course a moving target, as many movies come and go from Netflix with some frequency. But some titles are very persistent in the "Save" category.

Defining whether Netflix "has" a DVD can be a bit subjective. Netflix doesn't promise to ship you any particular version / edition / release of a film, so I generally credit them with having it if they claim to ship it in DVD form.

My Netflix child flags are:

Blu-Ray
DVD
Streaming
Unavailable

If Netflix ships the actual DVD, then I never check "unavailable".

If they only stream the movie ("Outside Providence"), I check both streaming and unavailable. I suspect that a relatively small percentage of Netflix users have the equipment and expertise to make use of the streaming service.

If Netflix only has the Blu-Ray re-release of an old film, I might reasonably flag both Blu-Ray and unavailable, since many people don't have Blu-Ray players.

Of course, I'm figuring that some folks here have other ideas.

Here's my list of non-Netflix DVDs, in one form or another, and I'd love to hear about what you have.

Hmmm, sounds like something I might add to LoadDVD Pro. Just in case you didn't know, it automatically checks the Netflix site for you and gives you an icon if available as a trailer or streamer. I could easily make the plugin add tags or flags or move to a custom category or whatever.

Clicking on the Netflix icon plays the movie if available, otherwise plays the trailer if available, otherwise just goes to the Netflix webpage for that DVD. All this happens in a window docked within DVDP, similar to HTML section.

Why would I care about what DVDs or Blurays that I have that Netflix does not?

I don't use Netflix, I buy Blurays and DVDs!

I am sure that most of the hard-core users here are the same.

I do both. Use LoveFilm (the UK equivelent) to watch new releases and then buy when they are better priced.

I live in the Outer Hebrides of the UK so no cinema within hundreds of miles.

OMG "hard-core" ???

I do it all. In fact, I even attend a movie theater now and again!

Regardless of the medium, I am able to appreciate the craft and creativity of all the people involved in making the movie. For me, that's the main thing.

You never heard about bragging rights?

People ask me all the time why I collect so many movies, and one of the reasons I can give them is that there are good movies that Netflix doesn't have.

Another reason is that you can request a DVD from Netflix, but don't get any guarantee of seeing a particular version of a movie. It's a total crap shoot in terms of which edition / transfer you will get, and some of them are more rare than others.

BTW: I DO use Netflix from time to time, and even visit theaters.

Don't have a Netflix account - I have so many unwatched DVDs anyway that renting a movie just seems silly.  But, since they let you search their catalog without signing up, I came up with these - didn't check my whole collection, just stuff I didn't think they'd have - some of which they did, but these they did not:

2 Million Minutes
2 Million Minutes in China
2 Million Minutes in India
2 Million Minutes: The 21st Century Solution
Big Red
China's First Emperor
The Chronological Donald v. 2
Creating The Lord of the Rings Symphony
Disney Rarities: Celebrated Shorts 1920's-1960's
Donald in Mathmagic Land
The Gamers
The Incredible Journey
Kite: Uncut
The Legend of Lobo
Little Dog Lost
Mickey Mouse in Black and White
Mickey Mouse in Living Color v. 1 & 2
Miracle in the Pacific
Paddle to the Sea
Panda and the Magic Serpent
Peaceable Kingdom: A Tribe of Heart Documentary
The Pretender: Movie Edition
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Season 1 & 2
Ride a Wild Pony
Robot Carnival *
Shark Quest
Stub: The Best Cowdog in the West
A Tiger Walks
Zorro Season 1 & 2

* I'm not sure of the locality or legal status of this disc.  It might be a bootleg or it might be a Hong Kong release.  I got it secondhand, so...

I figured they wouldn't have any hentai or yaoi, but they surprised me with a copy of the first Urotsukidoji OAV, Mezzo Forte, and Kizuna.  They don't have The Urotsukidoji Perfect Collection, however, or either of the Embracing Love OAVs.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Danae Cassandra: Nice collection! If anyone figures out a way to export data from profiler and compare it to Netflix in an automated way I'd love to know about it.

I'm sure some people on this board lend to other people here. It'd be a great way of catching up on some otherwise rare titles.

Something I remembered: For those of us that also use Netflix, you can fairly easily browse thru your entire ratings history, and see ("save") which titles were once available but are no longer.

I do this from time to time, and it's interesting to watch things come and go.
