| Posted: | | | | I mean saying that TV is a genre is like saying Movies are a genre, like saying Ford is a model of a car, or like saying beer is a brand of alcohol.
Saying TV is it's own genre is like saying Animation is only for kids.

| Posted: | | | | It also eats up one the the very few options for genres. I'd like some sort of origin field where we'd put TV, theatrical film or DTV and some sort of format field where we put color, black & white, animation, silent, etc. Right now, it you have an animated TV show, you only get one more genre ib the online DB, which is frequently not sufficient. |

| Posted: | | | | You could add your own custom genres and change the 5 positions to whatever you want and lock it down locally, so you don't ever have to see Television again. I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but its a step in that direction. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | It don't bother me as a genre either... though it wouldn't bother me if it is moved to a new field just as long as it is a sortable and filterable field. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I have no problem with removing TV, but only if a dedicated field was added instead (just as we lost Foreign, but received the Country of Origin field as a replacement). |

| Posted: | | | | I filter by Television a lot so I wouldn't want to see it removed unless the was an alternative check box for TV stuff. |

I agree with Addicted2DVD. I don't mind if Television were removed from the genres, but it definitely needs to go somewhere else then, where it is filterable. Something like a radio button with choice being: - Television - Movie - Documentary Something like that, just to give an example. I filter on Television almost every day (because sometimes I want to watch a movie, sometimes a TV series), so I really need that info somewhere | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

| Posted: | | | | Ideal would be a "Content Type" dropdown, containing
"Movie" (no matter cinema or TV) "TV Series" "Music" "Documentary" ...
What wouldn't belong in a "Content Type" field would be B/W or Animation, because that's a different information altogether | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I think it should be...
Television Theatrical Direct-to-Video Music Documentary
Not TV Series and Movies... as I personally think it should be how it was originally presented. So I would strongly prefer movies that originally aired on television to be under Television. That is how TV movies are done now (genre Television) And I definitely don't want to loose that function. As I use the filter to separate Theatrical movies and TV movies all the time. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | The problem is that you also have documentaries that ran in the cinema, even though most are TV productions
And even if we go your way, I'd still prefer a distinction between "TV Movie" and "TV Series".
The rules would also have to clarify if this is a Locality or CoO decision (a movie can be theatrical in one country and DtV in another). | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I personally think Documentary would stay in the genres... At least I always seen them as genres. But I added it to the list because someone wanted it included. If causes complications it should remain in Genres.
If need be to distinguish between them I could get behind...
Television Series Television Movie Theatrical Movie Direct-to-Video Music
But if there is another way of doing it (separating TV movies from TV series) I would still prefer...
Television Theatrical Direct-to-Video Music
...for the new field if we get it. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Agreed with OP.
I like Addicted's lineup, but I'd cut music:
Television Theatrical Direct-to-Video
Music and documentaries are genres and can be placed within the parent field.
(Meaning their are concerts made for movies, tv and direct-to-video. As documentaries are made for all three.) | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | I use custom genres for that sort of thing. I even have a load of sub-genres added to my genre list. Like breaking up my horror movies into the subjects like vampires, werewolves, Ghosts and so on. The main tags I use for TV Series is Completed (when I have the entire series) and for when there is a Play All option. | | | Pete |
