| Posted: | | | | The next four year will see the Android becoming the top mobile operating system in terms of the number of sales with the Windows Phone taking the second spot. This is according to a forecast issued by Gartner. It also shows Apple iOS dropping to third place and RIM taking the fourth spot. IDC has its own forecast, which mirrors Gartner’s rankings in 2015.
The Windows Phone 7 platform rising to second place surprised a lot of people because present sales numbers doesn’t make it a contender, for now. Gartner said that the forecast was based on the deal Microsoft made with Nokia. Its analyst noted that Nokia might be able to sell Windows Phone units at a much lower price than other smartphones and can utilize Nokia’s vast global sales network. At present Windows Phone has a 5 percent share of the market but in 2015 it will be around 20 percent.
Apple’s iPhone has a 19.4 percent market share in 2011, which places it second behind the Android. The forecast shows that the iPhone will still e in second place come 2014 but in 2015 the iPhone will drop to third place with an estimated 17.2 percent share. |

| Posted: | | | | Is this some new form of spam where the poster has nothing to gain? I really fail to see what this has to do with... well anything. That said, I love my iPhone. I don't care if Apple is #1 or #100. It suits my needs just fine, works as advertised and is VERY well supported. When it comes to you, purchase whatever you wish. I suspect not a single person here really cares what you buy or if you choose to buy anything at all. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. I took it as a sock account of someone trying a round about way to complain about no Android version but we have one for Apple's devices. |

I took it as a sock account of someone trying a round about way to complain about no Android version but we have one for Apple's devices. Probably. It just came across as the same crap I constantly see on Apple forums from Android fanboys telling everyone else what phone they ought to buy. So I guess it just rubbed me the wrong way. Anyway, I'm quite sure Ken will release the Android version when it's ready. And as the regulars know, that will happen when it happens and no amount of pushing, prodding or statistics will change that. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | Since we're on the topic of mobile phone OS's, I was wondering: Can Windows Mobile and Android phones switch the user language on the fly yet? That's something that was implemented from the get-go in iPhones and soooo useful! I'm in Belgium: set OS language to English or Dutch. I'm in Japan: set OS language to Japanese and I can text my friends in Japanese. So very convenient for people who are often abroad. With my former Win Mobile phone, I was stuck with the one language that was installed and it bothered me to no end. So are Win Mobile & Android still playing catch up in that regard? I feel the same way: currently the iPhone is the only mobile OS that offers everything I need in a mobile phone and it works perfectly as advertised. As far as my needs are concerned, the other OS's still have some catching up to do! (switching user language is just one of many examples) | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies | | | Last edited: by Taro |
