Hi all. I have over 3000 titles listed in my profiler. I have also listed all titles with corresponding location shelf number on an excel sheet. Is there a way how I can upload this information to my database instead of painfully going one by one to enter the location shelf number for each DVD Title? Thanks

Have you tried the Bulk Edit Plugin?

A tweak might be required for this. And the CSV upgrade is still sitting on the shelf. Take a look at BE if you want, and if the way it operates seems OK, let me know and I will finish up the CSV stuff (long overdue) and make sure it is tweaked to work well with overlaying Location into existing profiles.

Oops, wait-a-minit: seems like you don't have UPC in your spreadeheet? If not, then the issue gets stickier, because match on title would be totally new code.

Are the titles an exact match to DVDP database titles? If not, then I might suggest an alternative (if you want to use BulkEdit - there may be other ways.)

(1) Export your database to XML format - you don't need cast and crew unless you have local locked edits.
(2) Write (or have written for you) a script that does the match from your Excel (CSV format) and updates the appfropriate <Location></Location> elements in the XML. (If you try to do this by loading the XML into Excel and doing a cut/paste, be very careful: Excel will totally trash some DVDP fields, such as ProfileID, then BulkEdit will crash when you try to use it - but maybe you can get it to work if you are careful to prevent Excel from converting what it thinks are big numbers into exponential notation).
(3) Open a clean, empty database. Load the resulting XML using BulkEdit. Refresh all from Invelos. You should be set. If you hit a bug, you can just re-run the thing after it is fixed. You will be working on a new database and it will not affect your old one. The automated process to load 3000 profiles from XML would probably take a couple of hours or so, depending on the speed of your PC.
Thanks for your support.

I think this step is quickest solved in excel:
A CSVExport of Title and UPC put into a copy of the Title/Location side-by-side should to the trick quite nicely. Save it as CSV and all should be fine.

The integration into the XML on the other hand ... exceeds my poor kowledge of XLST at the moment, but I will play around with it this weekend, because with the unique UPC (or ProfileID?) it simply has to be possible.

As always: it's quite simple once you know the way

One small snag: I can only take the first DiscID entry for each profile! If you don't use those DiscIDs for any personal data, e.g. "Slots" that isn't any problem, an update from the main-DB will simply refill those.

@Da Vinci: Just send me the XML-export of your collection and the Excel-sheet (get my email address by pressing ), I'll bash them together and mail them back to you.

And please tell me if you use any field of your local database for personal information, e.g. the Cast/Crew mediadogg mentioned.
