| Posted: | | | | At the moment we can have Original Titles like:
X-Files: Season 1 X-Files: Season One X-Files: First Season X-Files: The Complete First Season X-Files: Series One X-Files: Series 1 X-Files: Volume 1 X-Files: Vol. 1
And the list goes on.... All these releases have same episodes. Since it's almost impossible to define which one is the "correct" Original Title and these affect to CLT numbers I suggest that for Original Title field we would only type the name of the Series (in this case X-Files) and addition of that have a dropdown menu to select season (Season 1, Season 2, Season 3....)
This way we could have same Original Titles no matter which release of that particular series we have. |

| Posted: | | | | What about best of releases and complete series releases that has/covers multiple seasons? And how about for those that use the original title for their list? Would end up with 9 releases with just the title of X-Files. | | | Pete |

My solution isn't perfect, but it would make things much better. Quote: And how about for those that use the original title for their list? Would end up with 9 releases with just the title of X-Files. I don't quite get what you mean by that, but you would use as title what ever is in the cover and then add original title. For example: Title: X-Files: Season 1 Original Title: X-Files (Season 1) or Title: X-Files: The Complete Season One Original Title: X-Files (Season 1) Oh, and I forgot... for the child profile purposes, we would need dropdown menu for the disc indicator too, so Original Title: X-Files (Season 1) (Disc 1). | | | Last edited: by Kulju |

This way we could have same Original Titles no matter which release of that particular series we have. That wouldn't work. Plenty of shows don't have sequentially-numbered volumes like that. Or, they mix several numbering systems. Look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, for instance. I has a volume which is just called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," followed by volumes 2-6, followed by seasons 4-9. This system would think that volume 6 and season 6 are the same thing, when volume 6 is actually the last third of season 3. Plenty of other shows have odd numbering, too.Look at Futurama, Family Guy, Seinfeld and Sliders, for instance. |

| Posted: | | | | Just to share some ideas, I created a sample using LoadDVD "series" specification, which is a way for people to synthesize a dropdown list of episode related media they want to play. I had the same problem of trying to account for multiple varied formats for naming episode files. See here - drop down by disc and episode. This is what was put into notes: [series season="03" disc="01" episodes="3, 5, 23, 27-29"] \\server\movies\%title%_S%sn%_E%epn%.avi [/series] [series season="03" disc="02" episodes="4, 9, 33, 44-46"] \\server\movies\%title%_S%sn%_E%epn%.avi [/series] Again, I offer this only to serve as a possible visual catalyst for ideas. Obviously not offering this as a solution - the requirement is clearly different. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! | Posted: | | | | Greetings all, here are my thoughts on this. Without changing or replacing the "normal" use of any of the Title fields... First we need a switch to distinguee between an episode “set” and a main feature “set”. This could easily be a radio button group containing 2 radio buttons labeled; “Is episode” and “Is main feature”. If that then was set to “Is episode”; we would need a dropdown with Disc/Discs/Episode/Episodes/ Season/ Seasons/Series/Volume/Volumes values, followed by a text field that would contain a number value ranging 1-999, e.g. Episode 255, Season 7 or Series 3. Then a checkbox labeled “Is multiple” and if that was set; a third “Sum” dropdown containing number values. This would be the sum of the Episodes, Seasons, Series or Volumes, e.g. Episodes 5-8, Seasons 1-3 or Volume 3-6. If that was set to “Is main feature” instead, no more “new” fields would be needed. For the more complex sets, I imagine the “Is episode” dropdown with its number value dropdown could be duplicated a second time or even a third time. Much like we have the ability to add multiple Genres or Studios today. This would cover the “multiple” aspects, me thinks. Accompany the first dropdown group there would probably be a need for “Part” as in; part 1 or part 2. I imagine a checkbox labeled “Is Part”, followed by a number value dropdown. 1-5 should suffice. For the most part this would work but there are always exceptions. Star trek and its way of numbering Episodes come to mind. The only thing that would be needed for these exceptions are to make the dropdown number lists into a text field or allowing custom edit possibilities to CRUD the numbers in these number lists. The seed has been planted (like so many others). Water anyone? |
