Well, it is October. The month that is filled with horror for a lot of us movie fans. So I was just wondering do you usually get scared when watching horror? See... I don't get scared. Not at all. I haven't since I was a kid (pre-teen). And I always found it strange when someone says a movie scared them. But then again... I could possibly be the strange one! 

The last time I remember actually being scared was the first time I ever saw the film "The Exorcist" back in the late '70s early '80s. I don't know... I think I just came to the realization that anything I see in a movie is fake so why be scared of that?

Don't get me wrong...I can enjoy great (even good) storytelling. Horror is my all-time favorite genre. I just don't get scared by watching it. Sure I will jump at unexpected jump scenes... but no more then that. No feeling of fear from a story or anything like that.

So you tell me. Am I the strange one here? (probably!)

What does it take? The story told especially good? Does it depend on the sub-genre? Like vampires and werewolves don't scare you... but you do get scared with ghost stories?

My sister-in-law gets scared by horror quite a bit... but especially if it has ghost children in it for some reason. She has a thing about scary ghost kids.

Of course... but horror don't make me scared.

Possibly because I been watching it for a good 35 years now as my main favorite genre.

Same for me. And those moments usually leave within the same second keeping a smile on my face.

Yup... that is about it.

So far it seems I am only the odd one when it comes to my group of family and friends around here.

No it doesn,t scare me. I might jump at something unexpected that's all. I just enjoy them been watching horror for over 45 years.

A couple years longer then I have even been around! I estimate my time of watching horror at about 35 years. As someone on another forum said... We are all probably just desensitized to them after all these years!

Psychological horror with an unseen and unexplained threat i find rather engrossing and unnerving. Scary however not constantly but it has it's moments.

Sometimes horor films are a bit creepy, and i enjoy the atmosphere. but really scarry.

the only time is was scared watching a film was The Thing, but i was 7 when i watched that, so that probably explains my fear. Now i still enjoy the Thing, but it's not scary.

Like others, it never scares me. But even action scenes with a sudden burst of volume can make me jump and get my heart pumping.

I've never been a horror person. I just can't get "into it" like I can action or feel the same entertainment like I can animation (there are exceptions to this, of course.) I can get pumped up for action, but I can't get "feared down" for horror.


A quote I have always remembered was from the TV series Xena: The Warrior Princess. Ares (God of War) is made mortal, and for the first time is feeling emotions from a human level. As he and Xena are carefully creeping through a dark and narrow way, a large rat passes by which Ares sees making him jump and cower for that split second.

Gathering his composure quickly he says along the lines of, "I guess that's what it's like to feel fear." Xena's reply: "No, that was surprise. You'll know when it's fear."
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.

If I'm alone at night in a big dark house, tired and irrational, I can myself so worked up so I'm freaked by thinking about devil, demon, ghost or killer-in-the-house movies.
