I know that Airplane ! had few lines of funny text in the neverending credits  and it  had a surprise last shot at the end of the guy in the cab.. ( all this ,,never been done before) ..

But for outtakes ..that is so common these days.. I can't seem to pinpont what movie /comedy this came from..

Was it a Burt Reynolds movie..?  and if so was it Smokey & the Bandit..??  or not??

any thoughts?

I am completely lost of what you are asking

Are you trying to find out the first movie that used outtakes in the credits?

Yeah, I think Smokey and the Bandit (1977) was the first, and then a bunch of Burt Reynolds films after that continued the trend.

I think some of those crappy spoof movies by Friedberg and Seltzer had them to pad the time.

I don't understand what you are asking? As you have said yourself - having outtakes in the credits is common so what's the question?

If you want an example then 'Monster's Inc' did that - like lots and lots of other films..

I also think it was Smokey and the Bandit - but on that I am not sure. (Might have been Cannonball Run)

However, there is a story that Jackie Chan thought that was how all US movies ended, because when he was in Cannonball Run II that is how the end credits ran, with out-takes running during them, so that is why all of his films from that point have out-takes.
Signature? We don't need no stinking... hang on, this has been done... blast [oooh now in Widescreen]
Ah... well you see.... I thought I'd say something more interesting... but cannot think of anything..... oh well

From Wikipedia:

Film

An outtake is any take of a movie or a television program that is removed or otherwise not used in the final cut. Some of these takes are humorous mistakes made in the process of filming (commonly known to American audiences as bloopers). Multiple takes of each shot are always taken, for safety. Due to this, the number of outtakes a film has will always vastly outnumber the takes included in the edited, finished product.

An outtake may also be a complete version of a recording that is dropped in favor of another version.

Often outtakes can be found as special features on DVDs. Outtakes can also be found playing over credits at the end of a film or TV program. Well known examples of this are Jackie Chan and Pixar movies, almost all of which play outtakes at the end of the movie. Pixar movies, being computer-generated, do not feature "real" outtakes, but rather staged ones in which the animation features mistakes.

Outtakes may also enter stock footage libraries and appear in future productions.

It is generally considered the inclusion of outtakes in a film's finished product started with Hooper (1978), helmed by stunt-man-turned-director Hal Needham and starring Burt Reynolds. Needham decided to include outtakes in the film's end credit scrawl to highlight alternate camera angles for the impressive stunts performed for the movie. Needham also interspersed comedic outtakes of the actors as well.

The inclusion was so successful with fans that Needham continued to insert comedic outtakes in his future directorial efforts such as Smokey & The Bandit 2 (1980), Cannonball Run (1981), Stroker Ace (1983) and Cannonball Run 2 (1984).

That's why I asked the question that you rolled your eyes at. You never used the word 'first' in your title or original post, and without it there were many other things I was assuming you might mean instead.

Well, now that we have that cleared up... I have no idea what the answer is
