When I, "open database", from the file menu, the database now appears in red text and when I try to open it a message says "unable to open database," "the database path is not accessible",I can't repair because I can't open a database to repair it, also the list of reports seems to have disappeared, it may be a coincidence but I think it happened at to same time I updated to version 3.8.2, I have tried everything that I can think of, can anybody help, i'm lost without my dvd list.

Try doing it externally. Go to your start menu and you should have a DVD Profiler folder in there somewhere. Within the folder is the link "Database Repair Utility."

Or, you can go directly to the file which is by default at C:\Program Files\DVD Profiler\DVDProDBRepair.exe (or "Program Files (x86)" for 64 bit versions of Windows.)

Assuming you do a full backup of your database, reports are backed up along-side the movie/cast/cover/photo data. Once you can load the database, the the reports should be there as well.

Thank you Blair, but no go. I tried the start menu option but the database that I am looking for was not there so can't repair, also tried "RUN" and "SEARCH" neither could find the file.

Is this a database separate from the "default" database that Profiler created automatically when you first installed the program (a new one you created and gave its own name?) If you installed the new version over the old version, there's a chance it should have remained, but if you did an uninstall before installing the new version, then you likely deleted the database that you had going.

It's always important to create backups (File -> Backup Database) before making installation changes.

So anyway, let's give this another view. Find your 'My Documents' folder and in it should be the folder path "...DVD Profiler/Databases/Defauilt"  Go into that folder, then 'Images' and see if the covers for the images in your collection are there. If not and there are are any folders other than 'Default' go into them and check the same.

If they are not found at all, then your collection is gone unless you have a backup. (I see that you uploaded 5 movies to your online collection; you can retrieve those back to your computer, but it overwrites what is currently showing in the database that you have open, so I was making that a last resort (if nothing else worked.)

Hi Blair, Olivercat here again,
When I first installed DVD Profiler (free) you were only allowed 49 dvd titles in the default database, although this may have changed but it suited me as they are in alphabetic order, so I use the default for new dvd's which I call (AAA) and then transfer them to my database list with no more than 49 in each.
I did install the new version over the old one, and I did do a backup to my laptop which I keep on version 3.8.1 although the backup is a few months out of date, I could restore back again but I am worried that I might lose them aswell.
I went into default folder but only the new dvd's were there.
As I said before, I can still see my database list a--to--z but in red which means they are still there but inaccessible.
