| Posted: | | | | I had an interesting and frightening problem.
As I was moving some of my DVDs from a room where the floor was about to be tiled, I saw an interresting cover.
Martha was the title. On the cover, Rainer Werner Fassbinder the director. I wondered how many other titles by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. I set it aside, as I knew I would not remember the complete name.
Later after I moved the computer to a room that been already painted and tiled.
I entered the title Martha and selected tbe profile's crew information of Rainer Werner Fassbinder and only five titles popped up. I thought I had more titles by him than that. I remember more recent title released by Criterion. I tied the Collection List, Cast search, and seven different titles were listed.
Invelos, we have a problem.
I ran the repair under the executing profiler and got an error, the program was hang. I had to go to the task manager to terminate the profiler.
I ran the seperate DVD repair program, it listed an indexing error and stated that it fixed it. I just happen to notice a list of names flying by the screen while it was running, but didn't pay much attention to it until I restart the profiler and notice no cast or crew in any profile.
I next tried to restore the db, an error, then a tried previoous restore no luck. As you can imagine that by this time I wasn't a happy camper.
Then a stroke of luck, I tried to restore just one profile. That worked. The I tried the whole mess. and it executed.
It appears everything is back to normal, but with over 20,000 profiles who knows.
Both crew listings now agree and indicate that I have 12 films old Fassbinder.
Like I always tell the check clerk at the grocery store when she runs my credit card, I say you know you can't trust computers, I know I been repairing and programming them since 1960. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Similar things happen to me often enough that I backup Profiler practically every time I make changes. I can't tell you how many times my cast and crew have all disappeared after running a database repair (but only if that repair was preceded by a database error), and my database is just a small fraction of the size of yours. I keep at least two recent DVDP backups handy at all times. --------------- |
