| Posted: | | | | Maybe this will make you feel better about the upcoming few days. This morning I just came off a good 3 to 4 month long brain fart. The mouse pad on my laptop stopped working a few months ago. So I hooked up a USB mouse to it. This morning I remembered there is a button on the keyboard to turn the mouse pad on and off... sure enough... it was turned off! | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

| Posted: | | | | LOL that is a good one, but it happens to all of us. Sometimes it is hard to keep track of all configuration possibilities and miss the obvious My biggest fear of all this is it forces me to move to Windows 8 |

Windows 8 and 8.1 both have start menus that function very much alike the old one, but IMHO after few minutes getting to know with them proves to be much better. |

| Posted: | | | | I think how you will want to set it up will very much depend on whether your new laptop has a touchscreen, which Win 8 is very much set up to work with, or not, in which case many people find it easier to make it appear and act more like previous versions | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Win 8 is very easy to use with mouse and keyboard and it acts almost the same as Win 7. For example is you want to open a start menu in Windows 7 you eather click the Start icon or press Windows key. Exactly the same way as in Win8.1. The only difference is that the Start menu look a bit different. There are couple of new key combos that makes using Win8/8.1 much easier. Win + C Win + I Win + X That's about the all you should learn. |

| Posted: | | | | All I'm saying that it's a horrible fuzz about different looking Start Menu and under all that crap people seem to forget that it's quite a good OS. At least better than any other OS that I know.
The only thing that bugs me a bit in these "new generation" OS' is that they removed the Start Menu button from Windows Server 2012. Don't get me wrong, I don't miss the old Start Menu, but I miss the button. Server OS' are often under several virtualization layers where keyboard shortcuts doesn't traverse through as wanted. Sometimes trying to point bottom left corner with a mouse through several virtualization layers is a PITA. I hope they brought the Start Menu icon back in Windows Server 2012 R2 as they did in Win 8.1. Latter doesn't IMHO need it, but the server version does. |
