Hi.

I've decided to update my long neglected Profiler database but, unfortunately, I don't have a backup file. I've done the download online profile list via the OnlineList.dod link in the FAQ but with no luck.

Your old Intervocative database is still there.
For re-activating it you'd need to download DVDProfiler version 2.4 from here, install it and download your collection (Menu: Online -> DVDProfilerOnline -> Download). You'd need to remember your old access-data for this though.

When finished:
- create a backup (Menu: File -> Backup)
- uninstall version 2.x
- install version 3.8.2
- import your backup-file
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Very interesting! Didn't know they were still online. I've probably sold 80% of my DVD collection so it brings back memories.

Or you can go directly to 3.8.2. Open a new database and install the BulkEdit plugin.

Using the BulkEdit "ScrapeGoat" menu, type in your user id (Ste7en) and the online profiles will be displayed. Then Flags/Flag All, then click Ad To: and go for coffee.

Once that is done, click "Refresh Profiles' and ScrapeGoat will execute the Online Refresh Profiles from Invelos function (or you can do that your self).

Done. Note this does not preserve personal info. You need Lewis' method for that.

(This is possible because your collection also comes up when you use www.invelos.com)

Didn't even check this ...

In this case all he'd need to do is install version 3.8.2
When done go to menu "Online -> DVDProfiler Online..." in the now opening window choose the option "Download".

Don't confuse the poor boy with ten options! He's been out of the game for a while.

It's the easiest way.
If it doesn't work try mediadogg's suggestion.
If this fails too, try my first approach.

If all fails come up again and we'll try to find out what went wrong.

Fantastic! It worked.

Wonder if I can get it updated while we still have physical media

Welcome to modern Profiler!

So, now that you have updated your collection to the newest software, are you going to set it aside again and not touch it for another 7 years?

Tempting. I have over 3,000 DVDs now and I've never catalogued a single HD-DVD or BD

I need to do something though. I'm sick of accidentally buying the same flicks over and over again. Some are intentional, but not all

Well at least the HD-DVD collection can't get much bigger.

(1) Maybe start there to get some practice? If you can find a user that claims to own most or all of them ever produced, ScrapeGoat can grab them for you quickly.
(2) Next do the BDs - using a barcode scanner or DVDP mobile app.
(3) Now for the big job, I suggest pick a user every day that likely has many of the same titles as you - same interests and locality. You can grab all the titles you remember with a few mouse clicks of ScrapeGoat. While waiting for ScrapeGoat to add profiles, you can barcode scan whatever DVDs whose cases you can still access easily.

I'll bet you could get pretty close to all done in less than 2 weeks, without a huge effort.
