| Posted: | | | | Seriously regret updating my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 as the move to Android 9 not only has caused problems for finger print unlocking in some apps but causes the DVD Profiler app to crash. It starts up ok, but as soon as I go to the databases tab to try and update the collection, or even open the existing collection the app crashes without any error message straight back to the home screen. Any news on when we can expect a build that works with this version of Android please? In case it isn't related, although it is completely linked to the android update in terms of timescale of when it stopped working, I've created a poll so you can indicate if this is a problem encountered by the rest of the community. |

| Posted: | | | | It's probably a Samsung thing. I haven't had any problems with Android 9 on my Google Pixel. But you might want to check the permissions on the app so that media and network access are enabled. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | SOLVED : I did think to check the permissions but they were still there. Your suggestion made me think again about that though so I went into the Phone Settings/Apps function, turned them all to deny (and instantly got a message that those had been set for an older version of Android), then turned them back on again. That stopped the crashing issue, so if anyone else gets that issue I suggest first of all they try this simple step.
I still have a problem getting a connection to the PC on the network where DVD Profiler is running despite the IP and port numbers matching but I think that's because I'm having to stay with a friend and It is my usual network setup. I used a static IP at my own place but I would expect it to work at the present time with the matching dynamic IP in both mobile and PC. Might be the router that isn't letting the traffic through on the default port but to be honest I have less problems on her modem/router getting things like smart plugs to work than I did on a BT Home Hub at my old place. So that's something I yet need to resolve.
The good news is that the crashes may just be an issue with the migrated permissions between 8 and 9 not being compatible and you need to deny and grant them again. A pain though. |

| Posted: | | | | NOT SOLVED: Not used it for a while due to house move and it is back to crashing again. Even removed and reinstalled it, but still crashes without any indication why. I gave feedback with submitted log files when it crashed so hopefully it can be fixed. Otherwise I'll be migrating to a rival product. |
